Measuring number of Launches with VCDS.

Post by aled_31 » Fri Aug 31, 2018 10:41 pm

I've just collected a Misano B9.... pics in the Picture thread, just love the colour!!

The car is an ex demo with 4500 miles on it as I really couldn't face the wait for a new one. I'm really pleased with the condition for an ex demo, its absolutely unmarked.

Has anybody successfully found a launch control counter in VCDS as I'm curious how many launches it may have done (hopefully 0..... gulp!!).

I have a VCDS HEX + Can cable, although I am not sure if it is compatible with the B9 as measuring blocks are greyed out in the Transmission module. Oddly I can access Advanced Measuring blocks??

Hopefully somebody can shed some light.... :beerchug:

1991 Mk2 Golf GTI 8v, Big Bumper in Oak Green

On Order:

3 x B8 Avants in Daytona, Phantom and Ibis

You’re not gonna be able measure something that is not available. The B9 has a ZF fully automatic gearbox and doesn’t have launch control.

It does have LC I've used it many times. Perhaps not "proper" LC as no dsg of course.

So you count holding the car on the foot brake launch control? Ok my Q7 has launch control as well. Thanks I didn’t know that.

Without wanting to start the whole launch control debate again, I couldn't find a counter on the RS6 C7 which shares the same gearbox as the B9. That doesn't mean it's not there, it could be just that VCDS has not discovered it yet. But, I assumed it was due to the fact it doesn't have 'proper' launch control.

Set it up just like the RS3 although yes it does try to "move" whilst the 3 just stayed there until you lifted.

Afaik it is LC as the car takes off far quicker like that vs just mashing the throttle.

You’d know if it is launch as the car would tell you on the dash.

Cheers. That explains why I haven't been able to active launch control. :D

Initially I flicked through the manual and noticed the section on the launch control program.
Now I look again taking more time, I notice the rider that states it only applies to S tronic gearboxes.
So, current gen RS4/5 do not have a launch control program.

I guess OP wants to know if VCDS will tell him how much the car has been hammered.

Cheers for the replies, that makes sense!!

Fingers crossed it’s not been driven too hard, all 4 tyres are measuring 6mm of tread at 4500 miles which is a good sign..... unless they’re the second set!!

That doesn’t figure. Every other car I’ve driven with launch tells you. As it will also cut the power of you ponder for too long.

I’ve not driven B9, but I would assume, as above it’s the same as the RS6 in that you can hold it on the brake. But that’s not launch.

Don’t make me get the 911 50 launch clip out again!

Sam is right. Nothing is displayed on the dash in any of the S-tronic cars that I have owned or borrowed.

Didn’t try it in the S4 loaner I had. Raped in every other respect. Only other stronic car has been R8, and I’m sure that did.

All the Pork cars do, and have done for eons.

Yeah, B8 doesn't need to tell you. You have your foot on the gas and it hovers around 5k rpm. I light on the dash isn't needed :)
B9 doesn't have it as such, but does hold the revs a bit higher when you apply both pedals at the same time in S with the traction turned down
It doesn't make a huge difference as it launches well in S if you just mash the right pedal anyway
