Post by Jayjay101 » Thu Aug 16, 2018 11:39 am

Hi chaps
As the title say I’m clueless to what this means!! The reason I’m asking as I’m looking at uprated T/C from advance automotion in the states and they have 3 types with different stall speeds.many thanks

Stall speed would be the RPM at which the TC limits the engine speed, if the transmission output is prohibited.

It’s how fast the engine can spin with the transmission in gear but with the car stationary, simplified to the extreme.

Google is your friend:

In general, the desired stall speed should be 500-700 RPM below the engine RPM at peak torque. This ensures a margin for application for the torque converter to take off. You don’t want to have to floor your gas pedal and wait a few seconds for your vehicle to move. Think of it as a balancing act.

Except the line from BenR1...

"In general, the desired stall speed should be 500-700 RPM below the engine RPM at peak torque."

Yeah, I saw that with a Google search too...means jackshiz without a dyno graph

OP, best get some dyno time then, find out the rpm for your peak torque

I think on most of the Dyno plots I've seen for these beasts once tuned peak torque is around 3200RPM, so I would go for the lower stall speed on the box.

Of course, if you are planning loads of high rev launches then go for the higher one.

Why don’t you contact them and ask for their opinion? If not I’m sure your competent mapper or MRC will be able to advise

When I had my ACE converter made the owner suggested a 200rpm higher stall speed which is what I went for. I'll be honest I can't tell the difference.

'muricans love it because it helps with launching at the quarters, y' all! Just keep it at stock stall speed. Also, in my research, apparently the TCU and ECU wouldn't make friends with a higher stall speed, that said, it seems Bilko hasn't had any issues.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Thanks for all the reply’s guys! Think I’ll stick with stock stall speed-just want something that’s going to last

If i remember correctly it was about £535 all in. I was lucky and bought a used converter off the Americam RS6 forums and the guy sent it to ACE for me. This was a few years back when the pound was worth a <beep>.
