I ended upgetting a Bosch for £138 which comes with a 5 year warranty (standard i suppose).
My C5 has been sat for 3 months while i get over the anger and annoyance at breaking so quickly, plus ive been f£kn busy as we all are with no time for nothing. So now ive raised a small fortune and robbed a few Eastern Europeans of their lazy earned cash i will get her fixed at the end of the month....It takes me a while to trust and I try to do my homework so at least now im a little more clued up (still clueless obviously) and ready to take the most expensive fixing plunge at Chester Autos ( yes i know there are cheaper places as ive spoken to a few.
Its a very good big 6 and the health check at MRC passed with flying colours so its good to know i have a good car actually worth fixing.
Have a nice day it. Cheers

That's cool. Have you got somewhere decent to park it now?

Maybe, but I will not like parking it there. I may have to when it is fixed. At a friends. It will be safe enough. If im not happy it will have to be sold. That will mean i have spent around 4 1/2 k in 9 months and will want 10k back no offers. Lol. I laugh but that is fair. It will still have a warranty for any box work. Im very interested to know wtf is actually wrong with. :)

I usually buy mine from Tayna - and if my stalking skills (and memory) are correct, so does Shoppinit.
119 for a Varta, or 87 for a powerline...

Is Tayna an online company? Im just going to grab the Bosch from ECP for 138. No postage and just down the road. Thanks for advice though, same goes for everyone. Nice one.
Will keep you posted on the BANG when it goes in. Had deadlines looming so left her all alone to rot for a cpl of wks. Bless her rubber socks!
Thanks for that i re-read thread and forgot to say thanks.

Sorry been long on an update.

Well, the input shaft snapped and wrecked the torque converter and various other things. Oil was a dodgy colour too Chester Automatics said.
Was supposed to pick it up on Wednesday but low and behold the exhaust was blowing and not aligned properly, so im told..., so taken back off and new gaskets etc on order and ive been waiting since. 6 weeks they have had it in total. Jeeeeeez. Oh well.

Jeez - was it mapped? I take it the box is getting a full refurb while it is out?

Having done the job myself, there is a massive amount of work that goes into getting that damn thing off and back on to the engine. Did they go down the engine-out route or just dropping the subframe a bit?

Engine out.

They are recommended and highly rated.

They also said the previous recon 12k ago overtightened everything. Picking it up next Friday now. Unless I can get over earlier.

Sorry, yes mapped to 525 (532ps), 610lbs (827nm). Started at 472 (ps) 665 (nm). Was told by MRC it was a very good example. I feel for Marc rs is it? He just been to MRC. I even paid cash and got some money off and got them to throw a badge in for nothing! 15 quid for an MRC badge lmao! Bit much I think.
They were sound though and obviously I would recommend MRC.

It has now got an uprated TC too.

Do you know who did the previous gearbox work and overtightened everything?

A1 transmissions. Cost 2.4 instead of 3.5 though but to be honest I want quality. A1 will even pick your car up. Chester Automatics wont.
There is no way the dude who keeps the boxs in to do the job could do a better job then Chester Automatics or any reputable gearbox company who take it out and inspect it properly. Surely!?
It may now go up for a reluctant sale, however, changing ownership to have a parking permit is now an option! I live too close to a city centre. This is why I have parking issues. I bought the car and did not expect to be told I can not have two permits at one address! GRRRRRRRR

Sent it off, upgraded over original. Or pay 600 for a bullet proof (apparently) ZF one - able to handle up to about 900 hp.

I was 100% happy with the service I got from Chesters. Moreover, the fact that they only rebuild the boxes suits me fine. I'd rather they focus on being specialists in that, which requires some particular skills, and let the remove & refit stuff go elsewhere where specific RS6 knowledge is relevant.

IIRC they offered me a new uprated TC, or mine rebuilt as stock. The price difference, compared against the whole job, was small.

First I was told 2 wk then 4 wks. Then last Monday then last Friday due to the exhaust not aligned properly and now today they say hopefully Friday bacause pipes need ordering. Fkd off. Nearly 7 wks they have had my car! I also get quoted a price then I persude cash and no vat for labour then they try and twll me the price without vat off when I said dont you record phone calls? So then i say ok. And now it is even longer. Ive arranged 3 lift over 12 wks too. Im losing all hope and patience and I can not wait to get there in person to unload my tender feelings. Not happy as usual with pieces of shitty metal and those that deal with them!!
