MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
As said, I have an MMI Plus in my B9 RS4.
I tried to load my music from iTunes into a 64G USB stick first.
It is playable, but not all music is shown in the index when I open it.
So I changed to a 128G SD card.
And that does exactly the same.
I can see and play the same records and starting from the same record it can't be seen.
It only imports or shows a certain amount of albums, and I can't get it to go on any further.
Any input on what I'm doing wrong is very welcome.
Is the amount of music I can put on a memory device limited to a certain volume of data?
I can't seem to find anything in the manual.
If I stream from my iPhone (bt) or with Apple CarPlay it all works, so it can handle the format.
Do I perhaps need to let it sit for a few hours with the ignition on?

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
Depends on which format the music is as my mmi3g will only play mp4

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
I just checked.
Some are in .m4a and some in .mp3
.m4a plays without any hiccups, not sure about .mp3.
However, the issue is that not all albums are showing.
So even .m4a titles that are alphabetically later just don't show in the playlist.
Is the sd card reading ability limited to 2gb or so?
I'm puzzled.

I didn't have a B9 so can't speak from direct experience but from other Audis there are always restrictions on how many files the MMI can see. How many do you have in the card including folders and hidden jpgs etc? And there is normally a limit on how many folders levels it can go down to. Is this your issue?
The older units also had a restriction on maximum filename length, it think it was something like 28 characters and any file with a longer name than this would not be seen.
is it certain songs you can't see or entire folders? From my experience if you have too many files on one card you can normally see the folder but it appears empty.

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
I have about 60gb of music on the sd card (first tried a usb stick).
I guess that is the case because on both the same amount of albums is visible and playable.
The rest of the albums just don't show in the playlist folder.
I guess it's about 2gb that shows and plays.
It is ordened alphabetically only artists starting with a and b are listed.
Now I stream from my iPhone by bt or apple carplay.

Check how many files you have on the disc.
Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
I checked. There's 49gb.
I don't know exactly, but I think there are about 6000 tracks from copied albums.

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
The file size 49gb means nothing. Need to know how many files. But 6000 should be OK (don't forget to count folder, jpgs etc.
I think you can have something like 10,000 files max (including folders, jpg etc not just songs) and no more than 1000 files in any folder.
Have a look in the manual, I'd be amazed if this wasn't all explained in there.

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
Ok thanks! So far I found nothing in the manual.
Everything is in one folder called music, that will be the issue I presume.
I'll try to make more and see if this solves it.

Re: MMI Plus and SD cards - USB sticks, what am I missing?
A little update.
I made alphabetical folders on the sd card. A, B, C, ...
I then copied each artist in the propper alphabetical folder.
So far so good, but I haven't copied it all so far.
But what's on it works!
