Fuel type??

Post by bakerstreet » Mon Jul 09, 2018 10:58 am

Hi, I have been putting in 99 or 98 super unleaded / momentum / v power etc.. but badly needed fuel after a long run and the only pumps working were the regular 95 unleaded. I am sure it’s ok to use 95 but I did wonder if you guys did an alternate fill up, stick religiously to super unleaded or does it matter? Thanks.

Nowt wrong with 95 unless you've had some tuning changes that makes it pretty much mandatory and causes misfires.
Personally I try to put 99 (Shell or Tesco) in both my cars all the time (both run better and more efficiently on 99 according to the manufacturer), but I'm not fervent about it.

Always T99 for me. If I ever only had 95 available I'd only put in a slurp to get me back to Tesco.

Mines a stage 2 MRC jobby. I've only ever used 95 on the odd occasion when desperate, i.e., splash and dash until I reach a 98 or 99 octane station. Never had a problem.

When I had my B8, I'd lent it to a mate the day before we had the 246 dyno day, and he returned it me with a full tank of Asda 95 in it. It still made the exact 444bhp on the dyno. I only ever use Tesco or VPower, and if there's no alternative, I'll only put enough in my B9 to get me to the next petrol station to get SUL. Can't say I feel much difference through, but perhaps constant use would make a difference ?

Thanks all,

The splash and dash until I get to Tesco is what I will do. The GTR always got 99, not one drop of 95, but it involved a bit of planning which I found a slight pain in the @“&e. I thought the B9 would be easier. I filled up at a motorway service station yesterday after a long run and it was 97(?!) BP ultimate but it was 162.9 a litre :boohoo:
