Time for change

Hi all,

Be good to get some views

My RS4 3.5 years old and feel like a change - really have enjoyed the car, but never seem to keep cars for this long. I don't think i can wait until the next RS4 so was thinking either the new RS5 or the RS6 performance.

Both different propositions - kids are now 6 and 2, so back seats not so much of a problem as with baby seats and my wife is also getting a new car next month so thinking that would be the day to day family car (something like a tiguan r-line)

So its sports coupe with latest tech and new out vs. practical supercar with older tech and likely to be superseded next year/2019 (but has awesome road presence and power)

Either car I would do on finance - so not much in it really - RS5 has zero contribution and not much room for negotiation and the RS6 has 7k contribution and more room for negotiation - so monthly finance cost won't be much in it but you get a lot more car for your money with an RS6?

Running costs the RS6 is going to be more (I think road tax for either is the same now)

Any thoughts or advice? Or just stick with what I have

You can get circa £12-15k off an RS6, if you can find a dealer who is still doing build slots and/or has a stock car.

Both the RS5 and 6 will depreciate badly, 5 because of the ridiculous list prices and zero discount, the 6 because it's end of life. If you're buying with a financial head on then if it were me, I'd be looking at the 6 with max discount. If you're buying for fun then I wouldn't buy either, a decent specced TTRS or RS3 saloon at £55k offers much better value than an RS5 at £75-80k.

New RS5 is a big pile of meh in looks and reviews thus far. I've not driven myself though.

I concur with the above, though, if sticking with Audi I'd go heavily discounted RS6.

It would be an RS6 for me. I don't really like the new RS5 from any angle apart from maybe side on whereas the 6 has real presence and of course a proper engine.

I assume the £12 to £15k includes the £7k contribution that they are offering at the moment on the RS6?

If it's in stock I'd be looking for the contribution plus a good chunk, 10% plus, off of the list price.

Has anyone considered the new RS3 as a replacement?

Had one before my 4 but with the big increase on the RS5 price I can see the new 4 being a tough pill to swallow price wise.

I drove one at an Audi event, and as fast as it was, it just hasn't got the same caliber or premium feel as a 4. it also has an awful seating position...i felt like i was sitting on top of the car when i drove it.

I saw a finance "offer" on the RS5 recently that was something like 800 pcm with 5 or 6 k down, that's not far off the finance offers of the previous gen, but without the contribution.

This is really my concern, if it feels "cheaper" as the 4 is built like a tank.

It really wasnt for me when i drove it, however i had the current s3 for 9 months and didn't get on with it, so could have been a hangover from that. My favourite car I've tested recently was a 911 4s...but thats up a bracket or two, the next was probably the 6 pe, but im conscious of the end of life bit...

I've just offered the rs4 for sale, should be listed early next week...no plans on a replacement just now as I'm not using any car at the minute.

Deals wise for the RS5, might be worth firing the details/spec in to car wow and seeing what they come back with. Will give a ball park figure.
