I still don't get how a market could exist for the Q8 given the size of the Q7.
I'm fairly sure only the FFRR is larger overall than the Q7, although i think the Q7 is slightly longer & something from Merc starting with a G is slightly longer still than the Q7. Any bigger & you'll be at Hummer size which wouldn't even fit on the roads in the UK, let alone car parks/garages.
Keen to see the new A/S8 though.

Re: S8 BHP
Q8 is after the FFRR market.
Q7 goes against D5/RRS/XC90/X5 etc
FFRR is a market on its own, and pushing upmarket after the fugly £200k Bentayga sold out !

Re: S8 BHP
Still find that weird as is this now about presence/image rather than just size/functionality?
The Bentayga is the ugliest SUV on the planet, but the FFRR unless my eyes really are shot is bigger so the Bentley is more X5/RRS sized?
What also surprises me & i could be wrong, i don't think Audi could ever sway FFRR buyers into a Q anything, that said i think the same probably applies in reverse. I guess i'm a little biased now but just reading what most owners comment on, the FFRR sits in it's own niche as it doesn't have seven seats, is bigger than all the vague competitors that do, but has the pedigree & image that those buyers appear demand. The Bentayga has the (to a degree) badge, but no off-road legacy although no doubting it's likely more luxurious than the FFRR as at £200k you'd expect it to be.
The Q7's always done reasonably well, but my gut feel is that's due to folks wanting the largest available Audi with the practicality of 7 seats, not that they'd every really be used off road & ignoring the SVO/SVR examples are actually priced fairly close at the upper end of the Q7 range/options.
I get that when a market segment appears attractive, most Mfctrs want a piece of the pie, but given just how many FFRR's & RRS's i see on the roads which is probably equivalent to the combined Merc/BMW/Audi offerings, why would Audi feel they've got a chance?
Saying all that, i'll for sure be having a poke around the Q8 & A8 when they arrive.

Mine was bulletproof too & being the Anniversary Edition was fairly well spec'd.
Sounded lush with the Miltek on it
Saw one up for sale on a cleaning companies forecourt yesterday,
they really are insane value for how much car they are.
Oddly enough being drawn into keeping my eye out for the new D5's due to be launched any week now.
