Rental Car

Post by N13LXC » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:22 am

Heading over to Milan in a couple of weeks and need a car for getting around so started looking on all the normal places...being lazy, i opted for an airport hire, but have been able to secure an Abarth 595 for the weekend...even better is it cost less than £100 for 3 days, and was way less than the boggo standard Q3 that was also on offer!

Cant wait to blast around Italy in it for a few days! could be a bit of fun, compared to my normal hire car experience, that is!

Anyone got ant tips for decent drives from the North east of Italy?? will post some pics once i'm back...

Lake Como is a must-do. Some amazing scenery. The road around it is slow and frustrating so you'll need all your horses at every overtaking opportunity, rare as they are.

Still worth it, though.

121 miles around Lake Garda. Amazing tunnels to rip through. Done it myself 4 times. Some really nice places around the lake for food and a spot of shopping. Defo stop at Limone where you can hire a speed boat for a couple hours and rip around on the lake.

+1 for the Lakes. Couple of hours from Milan.

Make sure you take the full collision damage waiver though. If you combine Italian "diligence" in documenting existing hire car damage, Italian drivers, tight roads etc. It's quite easy to end up in a scenario where you're either being blamed for existing damage, or the car has got damaged by some careless driver. Been there, done that.

Cheers for the ideas! Will defo check out some decent routes to the lakes.

On the collision waver, I've found other cover for about a tenner for the duration, however, may be easier to just pay the company direct, but it's 17 a day!!!

Looking forward to it, haven't done enough driving on the continent yet...

Oh yea forgot to mention. If you do Lake Garda go around it clockwise because if you do it the other way around the steep mountain walls are scary close as you're driving on the right hand side of the road.

I have year round rental car excess cover. Costs about £50 for a worldwide policy. Gives peace of mind but I've never had to use it.
