Door lock issue.
Door lock issue.
The nearside passenger door doesn't always close properly. It's worse now it's cold. Took 7 attempts to close it last time and I haven't opened it since in case it does close at all!
Is this a common fault? And is it an issue with the latch? Or another part of the mechanism? A new latch is £160 from TPS so I wanna make it's the latch before I buy it.
Thanks
Kully

Re: Door lock issue.
Needs a new latch mechanism. Lots of threads on here about it.

Easy to do - I posted a link some time back on the lock I replaced mine with, and another forum member did a bit of a how to. Prob half an hours work and about 25 quid for the part.

Hi Matt. I'll try and find that thread. Did you buy a new latch or get one from a breakers. A new latch from Audi is £164+ vat. my dad's a mechanic so we're getting on trade either way. Was wondering if it's worth while trying one from a breakers first.

Kully - check out http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331078677342
Believe it's the one Matt bought previously ( in the link he provided in the other thread). It's £26 delivered, but looks like a repro rather than OEM.

Re: Door lock issue.
Correct - it was repro. However, quality was good.

Re: Door lock issue.
Think I'd get an oem one. If the Chinese one fails you might have to destroy a door card to get the door open. Then you will cry real tears.

Re: Door lock issue.
Except it was an OEM one that had failed, on the least used of the front doors - and seems to be fairly common, too. Maybe they should have made the OEM ones in china.

Re: Door lock issue.
Tis a valid point. But I'd still go oem. At least they tend to fail in the open position.

Re: Door lock issue.
Aren't most OEM parts actually manufactured in China (albeit with, you'd hope, pretty decent tolerence and QC hoops to jump through)?
Re: Door lock issue.
Major flaw with that, you can't lock the car Shopp.Shoppinit wrote:Tis a valid point. But I'd still go oem. At least they tend to fail in the open position.

Re: Door lock issue.
I ended up buying the oem part. It'll help if/when I sell the car. I can add the receipt to huge amounts it's already got! But the price difference is huge! £180ish from Audi compared to £25 for a repro. That is shocking.
Will I need a new sealent sheet for this job?
Thanks kully

Re: Door lock issue.
Nowt wrong with OEM, but I hope you had enough lube?

Re: Door lock issue.
Yeah sprayed a fair bit in and around the latch but didn't work. Hopefully I can get it sorted this weekend. It's a pain not being able to use that door.
Just realised you may have meant lube for somewhere else lol in which case this may be a common feeling with audi
