Alex's B7 RS4 Avant

Post by AlexB7RS4 » Wed Nov 16, 2016 11:41 am

Thanks fellas! Another cheeky shot. Must admit, I'm loving these wheels.

I'm near the end of mods for now I think. A few more small ones to do - black out window trim and roof rails, Full LED set from trups, and alcantara retrim of the roof, and she should be set.

Slight rattle on the rear left going in to be looked at on Friday. Fingers crossed it isn't the dreaded DRC.

Been a while. Haven’t done much other than maintenance for a little while, but got a set of LEDs from Trups in the post a few days ago

Interior done and looks fantastic. Tomorrow will do the number plate lights, DRLs, fogs and indicators.

Next week have a set of KW V3s and H&R ARBs going in.

KW V3s, H&R ARBs and 034 Adjustable front UCAs went in this week. What a difference. Car feels amazing.

Just put in number plate LEDs, ice white fogs and LED DRLs from Trups. Gotta say that the LEDs really lift the car and modernise it.

Been thinking about next steps. This modding game is addictive. I went nearly 18 months without modding (only replacing tyres, front disks, brake pads and general maintenance) now BAM - straight back into it.

In for a long overdue carbon clean next week.

I'm thinking up next is a paint refresh. The plastidip has lasted 2yrs, pretty damn good! But I like the gloss black look - so plan is to get the fog light covers, grille, grille surround, window surrounds and maaaaaybe the roof rails painted in piano black. The paint is not too bad but is showing it's 10yrs of life - so want to get a stone-chip & scratch-fixing respray of the front bumper, hood, fenders and rear bumper. Then a ceramic coat to protect it.

Also looking to paint the callipers... watch this space.

Also looking for a carbon intake - so expensive!

Coming together nicely!

Be aware that a ceramic coat will not protect the paint from getting stone chips again. I’d consider paint protection film after a respray.

Might be a good call getting the front bumper, rear bumper and bonnet wrapped.

I shudder to think how much that costs to run in Oz. 😳

It’s not so bad. I’ve had a bad run recently of front tyres ($450/tyre), DRC ($5k to replace with KW V3, H&R ARBs and 034 UCAs including fitting) and brakes ($2200 fitted for brembo front disks, Ferrodo DS2500).

This week going in for a carbon clean $1000.

Really that’s all the big RS4 maintenance issues though. So down $9100 or about £5200 in the queen’s money over the last 18 months. I bought parts overseas (except tyres) and had them fitted locally.

Insurance is circa $1400 (£800)/yr. Servicing costs around $800 (£450) usually with one or two minor replacements like a split boot, I have a good independent I use. Registration $1000/yr (£570). Taking it to Audi for labour and buying genuine parts locally would easily have doubled the above costs.

I try not to look at fuel

I love this photo, your car looks great and the setting makes it even better.

I know you’ve spent a fair bit recently but have you got any plans in the near future?

Cheers

Cheers!

Not a lot of plans to be honest. Just want to clean her up now really - so no big changes just painting the calipers, getting the paint wear of a 10yr old car back to new and protecting it appropriately, update the stereo for a bit better quality - aftermarket amps, splits and sub (and wireless Apple CarPlay), and painting the grille and fog light surrounds piano black.

Carbon clean done yesterday. I’m told I also need to get my manifold flap actuators replaced as they have some play, but couldn’t get parts in time.

Apparently wasn’t too bad with buildup - looked like 20,000km worth which means it must have been done around the time I bought it.

Power increase is noticeable but the main difference is it feels more responsive and torquey through the mid range.

Some more minor maintenance done this week. Had the intake manifold linkages rebuilt with an 034 kit, they were looking a bit worn when the carbon clean was done. Car is feeling rather lovely and strong now!
