I did mention this to him a few weeks ago, it's the result of running NF race octane booster, they bugger the plugs and is probably the reason for the misfires he was suffering from.

You should only use the NF race booster occasionally, there's even a warning on the back of the bottle for occasional use only. Alastair had his mapped like that though and was running it every tank. I'll be staying away from ththe stuff if this is the result.

Is Alastair on here or FB? Would be good to watch his progress especially if he is going for 1000bhp

I don't see why we want to use octane booster of any description. tune the car properly and leave it alone. tuning on 99ron (and maybe even booster in there as well) then struggling to get 99 so banging in 97 and octane booster is not the way to go. tune on 98 with NO knock. even if you run 97 the ecu will cope easily and filling with 99 you will have a comfort factor re DET.

that car is deffo been detting, wonder how the pistons look?? Very lucky if the tips have not scored the bore but looking at them I guess they were so hot they more or less disintegrated.

getting every last bhp out of a car is not always the smart thing. Running 1 degree less advance you will lose around 10bhp but could well save your engine.

I have never used and never will use any type of booster. I would far rather run less advent and have a safe engine. never had a failure yet and been doing this a very long time.

Scary stuff all the same

PS that statement above got to be the kiss of death for the RS
The car which I was on about went back to MRC after getting a new charge cooler fitted, it was misfiring and thought the spark plugs were the problem but upon the re-map they discovered that piston 4 had melted! No case damage thankfully but now getting a re-build from forge due to warranty being void.

That's not good. I guess that's what happens when you want every last bit of power. I run mine really rich at the top end and do logs until I am happy. I like a bit of smoke ( unburnt fuel) keeps things cool, it wastes power but saves the engine.

Who's fault is it though? MRC? Or customer running additives and / or 95 Ron and nailing it?? Who knows.

I see a well known tuner getting nailed on FB just now as RS3 are killing pistons and rings, again who is at fault??

Tuning always carries a risk

Stage 2 MRC, exhaust etc. Think Leo had mentioned he was running some fuel additive but not sure which 1. Few weeks previous sheered a drive shaft so not had much luck! He's a massive tuner so knows the score and outcome with void warranty so just a bit bad luck.

Oh sheeesh .... Basic bolt on stage 2 car !!! That's hectic. I thought that this motor will run no issues with stage 2.

Yeah Alastair was tuned to run on NF Race Octane booster all the time which meant normal pump fuel 99 Ron wouldn't be enough. He broke two of his plugs a few weeks ago and now this.

NF state that their race booster should only be used occasionally due to the high toluene content, this is what fouls the plugs. Add all that together, continual use, damaged plugs, misfires, it's not really surprising he's melted something. Alastair is a good lad and he's going Stage 3 soon with the TTE 900+ hydrids so although a little setback, his car will come back an absolute screamer. Not sure the engine needs strengthened for the 900-1000hp output based on a few other cars running that power and holding up but if he's strengthening it then it's good piece of mind.

Where are all these cars? Surely they have build threads somewhere?

Details on the Total Race RS7 on stock engine and gearbox here...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... o-Dynamics

Simon from TTE says he has sold quite a few TTE900 turbos but I guess not everyone publishes their info on the web.

I cant find any info over stage 2. it all seems to revolve around the tiny charge cooler and no-one has published a mod / fix for it yet.

I know the guy in question was getting a new larger charge cooler fitted from Forge Motorsport. It was here they noticed the melted plugs then when it went off to MRC to get the map tweeked they found the melted piston!

At the moment forge only do a larger charge cooler radiator, not an actual charge cooler. Looking at the design of the bigger rad it will deffo help cooling but flow will still be an issue for over 800bhp. Some have moved to conventional intercooler but not sure how they got round the engine intake as they are not round, you would need some sort of fabricated part to mate round to square. I am sitting on the side lines ready to pounce when someone designs and releases something better / bigger.
