Audi now offer fixed price clutch replacement. £995 including parts...Pistolpete2543 wrote:I'm supplying all the bits (inc dual mass flywheel, LUK clutch kit, master cylinder & slave cylinder) and been quoted £280 labour to fit everything at a local VAG Specialist with a good reputation. If you go to Audi and need a flywheel, you'll be in for well over £2k total bill.

Re: Clutch Time
Don't think that will include the flywheel but happy to be proved wrong.
Re: Clutch Time
You are not wrong - it does not include the flywheel, £999 only covers the parts of the clutch friction plate, bearing and the pressure plate.marc1 wrote:Don't think that will include the flywheel but happy to be proved wrong.

Re: Clutch Time
No flywheel included in the Audi price, yet the flywheel is considered a service item when the clutch is done. Audi are no mugs, so £999 is just the tip of the iceberg. I can imagine the phone call
"Hello sir, we've got your car stripped down to change the clutch but you need a new DMF also. That will be an additional £950 please sir. And you'll also require flywheel bolts, guide sleeve, clutch lever and while its out we advise you to replace the slave cylinder....that's a further £200 please".
Call me cynical!

Re: Clutch Time
I just got a quote from a local independent specialist of £1920 inc vat for the clutch and everything else needed but not including the fly wheel, which would be an extra £842 on top if needed. They'd want the car two days.
Looking like Audi isn't such a bad alternative after all...

Re: Clutch Time
That seems wrong are you sure they aren't quoting for the DMF as well?
We do them at 8hrs x £45 £360 labour,
O.E. LUK 3 piece clutch kit £140
Modified clutch pipe £50 (or use the O.E. latest pipe priced this morning at Audi & TPS retails @ £78.83)
Slave cylinder (optional) £30 approx
Seals, Dot4 Fluid, consumales etc £15
All above are subject to vat so clutch fitted with OE pipe around £750 with the modded pipe we prefer to fit around £715
I am not touting for work you can Google us 'nicholson motors' I run a Bosch garage and own a B7 myself just giving my opinion what you should be paying at an indy, obviously you may require a new DMF but most places would advise you of that before starting the job, hth.

Re: Clutch Time
Rob for the benefit of the thread (my clutch is ok (touch wood), but may for the updated pipe as a preventative measure as we've discussed), but how much is the DMF incl labour etc from you guys? This should help give people a best and worse case scenario I suppose.

Re: Clutch Time
Ive left this a bit late but can you get one of these to me early next week? Its in the garage monday for a new clutch and de-coke, im thinkng this is better thsn the oem partRobnic wrote:With reference to the sticking pedal issue we have found from experience that the clutch pipe 8E2721465AG No26 in the parts catalogue due to the amount of heat that it is subjected to over time fails internally partially blocking, this allows the fluid to pass when forced from the master cylinder (pressing the pedal) but the clutch doesn't have enough pressure to force the fluid back past the restriction causing the pedal to stick down possibly compounded by wear in the guide tube / bearing etc resulting in a partially clamped clutch. This normally happens when revving high / accelerating hard, you only need to do this a couple of times and it will kill your clutch or knock about 20k off it's life![]()
The clutch pipe No26 in the picture the flexi rubber part (U shape in the picture) actually unscrews from both metal pipes so we have a teflon inner coated pipe with stainless steel overbraid made up and replace it with that so there is no need to buy the pipe from Audi, this is a better upgrade option and cheaper than the OE pipe.
I have sold a few to members at £50 + vat (£60) + £5 postage if anyone is interested

Re: Clutch Time
Not yet. Still haven't got the clutch hose from TPS as I was away last week. Not in any great rush. Have now got everything else inc the flywheel which arrived from the States as expected, great service from Rockauto.
I'll update my own thread when I get it booked in. I must get that list to you as well Niall, completely forgot about that.
