Notchy gear shift/clutch?
Notchy gear shift/clutch?
Hi all,
I had my first test drive of a RS4 today. I noticed when starting from cold first gear was quite difficult to select (notchy) and that I could feel a click/notch at the lower end of the clutch travel. Is this a normal characteristic of these cars when driven from cold (both elements improved once fluids were up to temp)? I couldn't detect any clutch slip.
Also the steering seemed quite light/lacking feel, again a character of the car?
Cheers
John

Re: Notchy gear shift/clutch?
no I wouldn't say they are characteristics of the car at all. my gears are smooth even when cold and the steering nice and weighty once up and running. it is light when parking.

Re: Notchy gear shift/clutch?
Just had my clutch replaced,& im amazed at how light & easy the gear changes are,it was getting notchy beforehand & 1St was sometimes difficult from cold,so id say the clutch was on the way out in the one you drove.

Re: Notchy gear shift/clutch?
Mine is notchy as hell and always has been. Had the box rebuilt which took care of the grinding but shifting still remains notchy. Replaced the clutch with Sachs OEM replacement rather than LUK (not the flywheel as I couldn't get one here while the box was out) and no change at all.
Well the new clutch feels a lot grabbier than the old one when you're shifting quickly but that's about it. Either the flywheel is to blame or the mechanism is out of whack.

Do you have any vabration? And increases on hard acceleration ?JCviggen wrote:Mine is notchy as hell and always has been.
