Private plate from existing car to new car

Post by MikeFish » Fri Nov 20, 2015 10:43 am

Guys
I've tried searching online but cannot find a definitive answer, especially as I know the process has changed and a lot of the advice is old and possibly outdated.

My wife has left her number plate transfer to the last minute. Her new car is imminent and she won't want to delay collecting it over a number plate.
I'm guessing she needs to put her private plate on retention and get a new number plate for her existing S3. Then ideally get the new plate registered to the RS when it is ready for collection.
The problem is, doesn't all this take a few weeks to do? Her new car could be ready in a week and she would prefer not to have to wait any longer (she ordered the car in early July). The old car is going back to Audi if that makes any difference.
I told her to ask the dealer so she emailed him but I thought I'd ask here while she waits for a reply.

Dealer should have been able to sort all that for you I thought. Think you'll have to put on retention as you say, but speak to your guy at the dealership and see what they say.

Ask DK. He's probably on first name basis with Doovla.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Mike I've had to do transfers at late notice and it should only take a week if not less. Just fill out a retention slip and send off with your V5. Give it a few days and just swap your old original plates back on. if your V5 isnt back in time before you part ex then just tell the dealer you'll post or drop it to them. You only send the main page of the V5 so you'll still have half with the yellow and green bit to show them.

Ps. just don't drive it furiously while you're waiting for the V5 to come back.

Really? And does that include getting a new reg for her S3? It has never had any other number plate before i.e. her private plate has been on since 1st registration.

Ha. Wait, what she doing out of the kitchen. Tell her that when she gets home to get under the house, as punishment, like.
