Help oil leaking :(

Post by tiago719 » Sun Jun 21, 2015 5:49 pm

Hi guys i need some help from someone that had already the oil leak failure.
-I have bought an rs6 avant with 30.000 miles approximately in the last month its a 2008 model always serviced in audi the garage that sold me mot'd the car before i pick it up, they also installed new tyres.

-After i pick up the car i went to audi to check error codes and nothing relevant was stored in the ecu just an error with the rear door latch.
One day i was washing the car and because the vehicle was perfectly leveled i checked the oil and it was on the fill mark,so i filled it up but i ended to spill more or less 100ml 150 ml :bash: on the engine compartment. I cleaned it, and because the auto wash had a lift i lift it up and washed under the car.
-Today i looked carefully in my garage and i saw some oil spots ( my wife has a smart and it also leaks oil so i didn t pay much attention before today) and with my flashlight i saw that the left side of the car (dipstick side) it has oil traces, and the total miles that i drove after spilling the oil is 1000 miles.
-Remark its just some oil spots its not a big amount of oil .

Can someone tell me if the symptoms are from the dreaded oil leak, something that i don't understand is that the oil mark is always on fill i know its a dry sump but i topped it up and after 250 miles it was on the same mark that i first saw i didn't check again because my garage isn't leveled, but the warning light never went on.

Thanks in advance

Best thing to do is to remove the under tray to have a closer look. Do you have Audi extended warranty?.
Too much power is barely enough.

I will remove the under tray but i d like to know where to look if its between the engine and gearbox,or if its near the timing chain belt.
As for the warranty i can stil buy it because i bought the car recently and they sent me an offer by mail to buy an extended warranty.

The oil pump is on the driver side front... you will know if it is the pump leaking. Oil on the under tray is a clear sign of this issue.

I was seeing the schematics from the engine and its in the front right side and my leak its clearly on the left or center to the left side. The right side is dry not one drop.
But tomorrow ill lift up the car and remove the cover and take some pictures
With the pictures can you help me to identify it its the oil pump seal ?
Thanks for your help mate

If you're referring to the Audi extended warranty then yes they will, but only if it requires the engine and box to be removed to resolve - it states that clearly in the terms and conditions. The other caveat is they won't cover problems that existed or they believe existed prior to warranty inception.

Mine is currently in bits having the oil pump leak sorted plus cam chain gasket & cam cover gaskets (discovered leaking when engine removed) all replaced under warranty.

Ok so update
I went to a jet wash because I'm not allowed to use their lift to mechanical purpose I was in a bit of a hurry
That being said I couldn't remove all the bottom cover but l loosen it up and I took some pictures
All the oil was in the passenger side and some on the center

I also have some in the drivers side but I think that s from the fact that i spilled 150 ml to engine compartment and it scattered all over with the air flow

I went to the Audi dealership and they cleaned the engine bay after checking the oil pump and for instance it doesn't leak
