[Q] - Audi additional Warranty Costs for RS4. (Urgent)

Post by wrsquire » Tue Jan 04, 2005 3:54 pm

Hi All,

I am currently in negotiation with an Audi dealear to purchase an RS4.

They are selling the car with a Years Audi Warranty, which according to the Dealer is "the same warranty as if I was buying a New Audi".

Questions :

1. I wanted to buy an additional year, making 2yrs total Audi Warranty, as I am looking at keeping it for around 2yrs (Even if I don't always good to have for private Sale), and they wanted 'Apparently' £1,000 for the second year, is that a good deal? He then followed through and said if I paid the asking price for the car they would throw it in for free...... hmmm

2. I am concerned with the statement, 'The warranty is the same as if you bought a new Audi'..... Where does wear and tear come in for such things as Clutch etc etc....

Any pointers much appreciated as I am going to have to make a decision either later this afternoon (Tues 04 Jan) or Weds morning...

Hope to hear from someone soon :)

The warrantee as far as I know is the same as from new, wear and tear items such as clutch brakes etc... are never covered under a warrantee unless they dissintegrate very early and it obviously isn't a case of wear and tear. From my experience (and reading of others), it is definitely worth going for the extra year if you'regonna keep it that long. I just had a gearbox replaced under warrantee (with clutch at cost) saving me around £6k.

As for £1000 extra for the second year, that's not too far off the mark, I've heard figures around £850, £900 for year 4 so it's close, I'm sure you can bargain with them some more!!

Also, I have heard that the fifth year only covers named parts if you buy it now. Don't know if this is confirmed, but if you can get 2 years worth of the normal aprooved audi warrantee which covers everything then I'd jump at the chance (I'm kinda wishing I'd done that since I heard the rumors of named parts only...!)

HTH and good luck with the purchase. Out of interest, which dealer are you buying from and what's the car spec etc...

For Audi used car warranty terms see http://www.audi.co.uk/usedcars/warranty/over5.jsp. But the real proof is to read the terms and conditions as supplied by your dealer. Surely you can just ask the salesman for a copy.

For costs see

and

I think TWH is pretty spot on. Year 5 warranty will probably be more then year 4 (£750ish) and you will not get wear and tear items covered. Alledgedly, the extended warranty underwriters sometimes cover more of the borderline wear and tear than the original year 3 underwriters.

Good luck with the purchase,

Ben

£750 for year 4 but with a £125 150 point inspection first, mine has covered everything except the worn carpet, but the car must have covered less than 60K miles.
Not too sure what I am going to do in yr 5, probably a shonky 'not covered sir' warrentee is the only option.

Looking at the audi website, they cover year 4 up to 100,000 miles at start (all parts except wear and tear) and over 4 years up to any mileage on a named basis.

BTW, has anyone looked at the range of prices for RS4s on the audi website?!?! One dealer has a car with 60k ish miles for £34k or something when another has one wiht the same mileage for £28k  :audibash:

You only need the £125 inspection if your car has already run out of warranty or doesn't have FASH.

As for the car prices, some of the dealers are clearly on drugs, or don't need the money

The Car that I am looking at is I think 3.5yrs old Y registered so registered sometime between Mar 01 and End Aug 01, and they are putting the Warranty on it for 3.5 to 4.5 year on it in the price, the £1000 was for the 4.5 to 5.5yr time frame I would beleive.

I had heard prices of under £1000, but thought that it was in the right ball park as far as figures go.

I will try and negotiate a better price, but we will have to wait first to see what they come back with for my Trade In :(

TWH is spot on. I was quoted £1020 for year 5 and its named parts only. I bought from dealer last year when car was just over 3 years old. I got the 4th year warranty as part of the price (as is normal for an Audi approved car) and it covered everything but wear n tear. I don't think the 5th year is worth the money for me as I can fix most things myself and I'm considering a warranty direct policy for £450 ish as one of the lads was quoted. (I've still to confirm) I'd like the piece of mind for the big parts like the gearbox engine etc. PS stock car.

Hmmm Well I have been pushing the dealer a bit more, and surprisingly they have come up with a better deal (Price to change) HOWEVER I questioned them today about the 'Warranty' and asked them to fax me a copy of what was covered.

I got 2 Pages :

1 - Audi Approved Guarantee - ALL COMPONENT COVER 1st Year I beleive
2 - Audi Approved Guarantee - NAMED COMPONENT COVER 2nd Year I beleive

Golich if you are around would that be the same one that you were quoted £1020 for year 5?

One question, anyone know if there are any 'Un-encased Drive belts' on the car? As they are not covered. I can list the cover if anyone is interested.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Un encased drive belts are the external belts, ie the fan belt, which in the csae of the RS4 drives all the ancilery gear, air con, power steering and alternator....Encased is the timing belts which drive the cams and water pump. If the open belt fails it is not a majo issue and will cost £78 inc fitting. if the internal/encased belt breaks, so does your engine....
