If you fit it in the same way as stock without firing any corrosion preventative protection it will suffer problems eventually (unless there is something missing I can't see from the product pages)
Although you won't have any problems with the crimp unions as you do on the stock pipes.
Hi mate,
Had confirmation last night that the JHM's are not steel, they are stainless steel adaptors and Anodized Aluminum hose ends ie no corrosion
That does sound much better - they need to push that fact on the product page!
Just to answer a few points above:
- stainless steel only protects the steel from rusting. Stainless steel + aluminium + water = still galvonic corrosion.
However I think stainless steel is closer to aluminium so the reaction will be less aggressive.
- as with stainless steel, anodising aluminium is for similar reasons. To prevent the aluminium oxidising (although it does also help with galvonic corrosion as the layer is non conductive)
If you had an anodised aluminium connector connected to a steel fitting then it'll still corrode. The problem is that the anodised layer is quite fragile and is unlikely to survive intact being screwed onto a steel fitting.
The only ways really to stop it is to one of:
- prevent water getting in
- cover the metal and prevent it touching water
- use a sacrificial metal (as the corrosion always goes for the less noble metal)
