Open wheel track day toy?

Post by TimDogg » Mon Dec 02, 2013 9:01 pm

Guys,

Thinking about a Formula Ford type track day toy preferably with aero though (Formula Renault 2.0 type) - anybody know of any company that makes these or a cheap second-hand ex-formula car that I could re-build~?

I nearly said 'do you have much experience with aero?' ;)

Brilliant :)

I've just put the Lotus into storage nr Cheltenham, they had just received a brand new Aventador in matt black that the owner had delivered to them direct from Lamborghini to store for a year before shipping overseas, surreal. I'll sell the Lotus in the spring - to be honest it almost swapped ends on me within a mile of the facility, I hit the 2nd cams on a damp undulating road with some turn on (like an idiot). It was enough to make me pull over and the wife, following me, thought I'd lost it. They can bite these little Elises, made me respect it a little bit more.

Anyway, so neither of you can recommend an open-wheel single seater to have some fun in!

Best you get an Exige then Tim.

Have you tracked the Elise yet?

Let me know when you are back at base and I will see if there is a track day at Anglesey to catch up.

Come up anytime Paul, I'm back on Anglesey now but, of course, the Elise is not here :(

Do you really really want open wheel?
Bloody hard to track as you need to go on a specific day as most arrive n drive affairs don't allow open wheels.

If you want open cockpit then a 211 is fantastic... but not formula ford cheap.

Also, have you driven with "proper" aero before?

No Ads I haven't driven with aero - what will be the difference to a normal car? I like the concept of doing the engine prep myself and trailering it to a track, adjusting the setup etc - just getting involved. I must admit, I wasn't aware of the special 'open-wheel' track day requirements - why is this, ie. why don't they allow open-wheels?

Paul, I'd love to fly paxs but the aircraft (Hawk T2) doesn't yet have a civvie pax capability but 'should' get cleared next year. Then it's just the exceptional amount of red tape to get through - I'll keep you in mind, how's that sound?

Thanks Tim, all the time you aren't allowed to I can be bold and ask, as soon as u are able to I will be quiet as a mouse.

Agree with Ads not many track days for open wheeled cars.

I guess there goes my plan to become the new Senna! I will have to build my own circuit - what started as a reasonably costed idea is rapidly going downhill :(
