What month to buy/sell an S4

What time of year did you all buy your S4's?

I ask because I'm in a bit of a dilemma about when to try and sell my 2011 S4 Avant, I'm luckily waiting for delivery on an RS6 in the 1st week of January, so it needs to be before then but I know Xmas time is usually a very bad time to sell try and sell a car. My other option is to sell it now, when there are more buyers but I'll need to get a rental car in the interim (and 8 weeks is a long time in a Mondeo Estate!) or a third option is to sell it mid-Nov so that only means only 4-6 weeks with a rental car although is the car market already hit Xmas slowdown by then?

Any thoughts or helpful suggestions welcome!

I wouldn't say there is a particularly bad time to sell a car per se, I know of a lot of people who change at Xmas due to Xmas bonus etc, my financial year ends November and (depending on how well the year has been) often change my car at this time.

If it's priced right and a good spec it will sell, end of story, if I had to pick a bad time to sell it would be around the new reg release? Car's are worth a good few hundred less straight after that no?

Have you had a trade in price for it?

Yeah, the dealer offered me around 21k for it but looking online at similar (although lesser specced) cars on Pistonheads they seem to be listing for around 27k (although I wouldn't expect to actually get that for it, it's still a big difference between that and the dealer's trade-in price) - plus I got a good discount on the RS6 so they said to me that they wouldn't be able to offer too much leeway on a trade-in.

Fair point about December sales though - I'm starting to think listing it at the end of November/start of December might be perfect for my situation - cheers
