After struggling a couple of years ago I wouldn't have a car without them, but each to their own, all I will say is that you definitely get less twitchy bum moments when the weather is icy, wet or snowy!
The sports diff does make a difference and dials out most of the understeer, one thing to bare in mind is that the diff and ADS are standard on the RS4 and there must be a reason for that.
Setting the car up to your personal preference is easy using the individual setting, I have mine set to - Diff in Dynamic, engine and throttle in Dynamic and suspension set to comfort, this is my favourite set up for a good blast! Comfort is great for a long motorway journey, auto is fine for day to day use but you will find yourself in a higher gear than you would choose when driving a manual, economic is a no no as you're in 7th gear by the time you're doing 30 mph.
My S4 was useless with just a small amount of snow on summers (michelin Ps3) couldn't get onto my drive. the mrs with an X3 on winters, no problem.
DSG-only now on the facelifted S4s cannot help matters. Surprised you couldn't even get off the drive though?!

I'm a winter tyre convert. To Mojo, the braking and never having to worry about the front losing grip and following the camber into the kerb / ditch inspires total confidence. I did some braking tests on snow and ice on the flat and downhill, on snow even downhill the ABS doesn't even cut in. Took a few passengers out, they all asked "how do you do that?!" Uphill with the traction control off it was impressive acceleration wise too.

18s are the smallest that will fit on the (B8) S4, so you have a huge choice of alloys including the default 18" S4 wheel if you want to keep the OE look

Not yet, but I'm expecting to hear from the dealership at the back end of this week to firm up a collection date.

And yes being a former owner of a MK5 GTI I have been posting on their forum on my S4 adventures...

Car collection scheduled for next Friday the 8th March. Whey hey!

A couple of quick questions:

1) How much petrol do the dealers typically fill the car up with?
2) What should I check on the car during pick up?
3) How much insurance do they give complimentary?

1) I had around 80% full
2) mileage. Mine was 42. Still wonder if it got ragged by a twunt in the dealers per collection. Get the red grommet cable if you got the tech pack. Check the paintwork. If I were you, I'd tell them not to clean it and get a new car prep done.
3) 1 week

1) full to the brim, although I had specifically asked for that during the deal :) Wife also got a massive bouqet of flowers, which was nice.

2) check the paintwork for blemishes, alloy for scuffs. Check the oil level within the first few days.

3) 7 day driveaway insurance.

Why the red cable? Are there different colours?

Blue is older cable, won't carry video from iPhone/iPod. Red is newer and will.

Well, its been raining and snowing since picking up the car. Its already looking grubby from the outside.

Managed an impressive 13.9 miles per gallon on the first tank load of petrol. Its difficult resisting the urge to push the throttle. Its addictive!
