Key Recoding
Spare key doesn't work so rang Coventry Audi and they said need to bring both keys plus car in for recoding. Cost £71 - really does it cost that much for 30 mins work?

Re: Key Recoding
That is expensive even for Audi, to give you an idea VW (same key type) usually charge just over £160 to SUPPLY and code a new key.
Does the old key start the car and then cut out immediately? If so then the transponder is the wrong one for the car (someone lost a key and bought another of eBay perhaps?).
If you can get the SKC read from the car (VAG-Tacho / VAG-Commander needed) then it can be coded easily with VCDS.

Re: Key Recoding
Have you tried new batteries? What doesn't it do? You can program the locking yourself.

So the car runs OK on that key? if it does then the transponder is coded and is fine.
Sounds like the remote just needs re-pairing with the car, put a new battery in it and re-sync it to the car (instructions are probably in the owners handbook, but a google search will find it as well …. B7 A4 remote sync)

God I'm an idiot never even checked that. Just done it and car starts fine with spare key - just the central locking part.
