Flaps !

Post by rs4lee » Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:23 pm

Ok so i know since i joined this forum ive posted nothing but doom and gloom about RS4's .....dont get me wrong i love these cars but like any high performance car they come with there niggles ,ive experienced a few myself aswell as seeing customers cars come off worse.

The only reason i am posting this is so others realise how much of a nusance these inlet manifold flaps are ,and that getting them removed could save you a massive repair bill when one goes through your engine.Plus once removed you can have the piece of mind knowing the little buggers cant cause any problems as most peoples cars are getting to the mileage were problems can occur.

The event that has made me post about this is because we had an RS4 brought in today sounding like a box of spanners ....comp test showed no comp on cyl no5 , we used a bore scope to inspect inside the cylinder and witnessed what looked like the retaining bolt that holds the intake flap to the runner mashed into the piston !! the engine is coming out next week for a strip down and inspection ...i will post up some pics

we have aslo had a flap break off from the runner and fragment causing a piece to go through the engine ....in the pic you can see the small mangled piece on the left that had been through the engine.

so people get your flaps out :-D lol

needles to say they are stunning cars and are otherwise bullet proof , unlike the v10 m5 that we have in thats bent a conrod due to a sticking injector !!

Mine are all gone mate

Had problems with Non-res Milly though - seems to run better with res milly - maybe the car needs a bit more back pressure when de-flapped ????

Sadly it's not free, it makes my post count tick over thus increases the size of my perceived cock and balls. It's costing me a fortune in virtual boxer shorts and wheelbarrows...
However, (and I digress, reluctantly). You, on the other hand, already have a free spell-checker AND you're free to use it whenever you please... you're welcome.

Complete motor would be the smart choice.
