I saw this on another site too. The Eurocrats would destroy a mutlibillion Euro industry overnight in those companies that offer aftermarket parts and fitting in the midst of a Euro economic crisis so where is the sense in that. Idiots.

There are quite a few threads on this but the one on piston heads is quite interesting as it appears to have people who actually know what they are talking about EU legal wise. It's either absolutely nothing just badly worded or as some people fear the end of modifying cars.

One thing to remember is that Germany has a massive aftermarket parts industry so don't expect this to go without a fight.

However I don't see it as the doom and gloom that some make out.
Many quality parts sold now are already TUV or equiv (ISO/BSI) approved already. For example all stuff from H&R and res miltek. Ap brakes, ohlins suspension... List is long.

Also need to consider existing EU legislation on non one parts.

In some cases if it's implemented correctly I don't see this as a bad thing - I mean, many people have changed exhaust systems to non oem but these parts get very hot and run right under the fuel tank... What about Audi themselves with the b5 collapsing rs wheels (which were type approved).

But even this I consider a bad outcome- many places in Europe have no road worthiness check at all after the car is sold which is bonkers. Even then many parts in Europe have bi-annual inspections which makes our mot look harsh.

Is it worth keeping an eye on and making feelings known - absolutely. but not time for outright panic yet (I think!/hope!)

Also worst case - could you modify the car and SVA it?

There's an easy way for the authorities to implement this...
Simply ban insurance on modified cars
