Uneven tyre wear

Post by Nickyboy » Mon Jul 23, 2012 9:22 am

I have been noticing that my steering wheel hasn't been straight so decided to check the tread depth of my tyres. Three of them were at 7mm and one was at 5mm.

Now, the car has done 3600 miles which got me thinking. When I was to pick the car up I got a call from the dealer saying a wheel was chipped and I would have to wait for a new wheel to arrive which would take a week. As I has already booked time off to go and pick the car up (400 mile trip) I said this was a lot of hassle for me. They resolved it by taking a wheel off a demo car and I could come pick it up.

Due to my excitement and time constraints I thought brilliant and went and picked it up. In hindsight I should have inspected the tyres and made my complaint then (assuming the tread depth was different then).

The issue I have is proving that the issue is because of this as I have no record of the wheel swap. I'm guessing I've just got to suck it up and pit this one down as a lesson learnt. Or do I?

Anyone offer any advice? I shall be contacting the dealer later today.

you said the wheel was damaged, ask them did they just replace the wheel and put your original tyre on or did they put a wheel and tyre off the demo car .If it was wheel and tyre its obviously done considerably more miles than the rest of the tyres (your car was brand new) the replacement was not (part worn)ask them how many miles it has done and tell them your not happy .If your original tyre was put on a replacement wheel there is a problem and it needs to be looked at.Personally i think it was wheel and tyre ask them to sort it out .
