Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Found Cardiff's invoice from 22/03/2011.
Tyre tread depths:
osf 3mm
nsf 4mm
osr 4.5mm
nsr 3.5mm
Camberley's invoice, 28/04/2011
(different presentation)
fr 4mm
fl 4mm
rr 4mm
rl 5mm
This is with Camberley seeing the car just over 5 weeks and 300 miles AFTER Cardiff saw it.
Checked myself this morning, and my readings are the same as Camberley's.

Pop into your local tyre depot and see if you get 3 different readings it is possible if they measure in different places.

Yes, when Audi last checked my tyres I had 3 readings per tyre - inner, middle and outer. Ideally all 3 measurements will be the same but if you have tracking/alignment issues they could be different.
Gone to the dark side
Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Sure, in the interests of an easy comparison, I used the figures from Camberley's Maintenance List, not the Invoice as I wrongly stated.
Camberley's figures from the Invoice are:
lf 4/5/4
rf 5/4/4
lr 5/5/6
rr 4/4/5
These tyres came with the refurbed rims I bought, and as such do not have even wear, I'm just trying to get a bit of life out of them before they get chucked, but what I don't expect to see is such a big disparity between two different dealers, one of whom is quite clearly out to make a quick buck by selling tyres and brakes.
It ain't Kwik-sh*t we're dealing with.
Cardiff only provided the one reading per tyre.
It clearly states on their invoice "Front tyres close to legal limit"
Um.... Since when is 4mm close to the legal limit?

The only difference between Cardiff Audi and Kwik-Fit is the price.
Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Speak to Dave at MRC they have a guy who comes in and sorts all there disc/hub problems. He machines the discs on the car which eliminates any hub runout and solves brake judder. Seen him there when I have been there. They rate him highly. At least you will get an honest opinion.
Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
MRC would be a good bet, but I've decided to wait till I'm back in Glasgow to let them have another look at it. The service manager knows my indy guy who fitted the discs, and he does seem to want to help.
In the meantime I've been in touch with Southampton Audi service manager, since I'm currently in Southampton for a bit.
I ran the entire scenario to date past him in an email, which he also showed to one of his techs there. They're of the opinion that the hubs are unlikely to be faulty, but this is without seeing the car. They quoted two hours labour which is just too much for just a diagnosis. I'd have paid for one hour, but not two at £110 ph + VAT.
Anyway, since I was in touch I also asked if they knew about the SW0090 update, he said he didn't, though it was possible it had been applied to a car there at some point as they have 20 techs working there.
Will pop in next week to get my tyre depth measured so I have extra ammo against Cardiff.

Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Can't recall how much camber the rs4 runs but my other car has a fair bit and you do get noticably more wear on the inner edge.
To be honest, tyre wear looks fine apart from the lf could be under inflated.

Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
just a thought..distorted rear discs can also cause judder.

Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Was about to say, have you checked the rear discs? Best way, get the car up to speed around 60mph and then gently apply the handbrake on. If you feel judder it is the rear discs. I have had to have fronts and rears skimmed in the past, both are prone.
Re: Cardiff Audi, warped discs issue
Skimming would actually be the cheapest option, but part of me would still grudge that since the discs were only 3 months old when they started playing up...
I guess the rears could be distorted too, could certainly get them checked over....
The whole saga is putting me off main dealers, and I was never a fan to start with! The only reason I've been going to them with the RS is 'cos of the DRC warranty, but the car's now 4 yrs 2 mths old with 63k on the clock, so it's nearly time to go indy anyway!
