Selling private plates

Post by BillTheButcher » Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:54 am

Hello.

I should be picking up my B6 S4 later this week. 8)

It's currently got private plates on it which I want to remove and sell on ASAP.

I already have a quote from regtransfers.co.uk but are there any other sites/companies that people would recommend?

Also, as I understand it, the process is:
- Fill in the form and pay the DVLA £105 to keep the private plate on retention so that I can sell it.
- The DVLA send me the car's original plates (or an equivalent if they've been used elsewhere).
- I sell the private plates and fit the originals.

Am I missing anything?

Cheers. :D

Thanks. :)

They've been up for sale with various companies for over a month now but no joy as yet.

Is there not a transfer fee when you come to sell the plate?

I've tried selling 2x PPs for over a year. Had silly offers for one and nothing at all for the other.#

And don't think you'll get anything like the valuation they give you...

Try advertising it on fleabay - I sold a plate recently on there quite quickly.

There is but (according to the companies I've advertised it with) the buyer will pay this.

Thanks Nige. I think that's where I'm heading next. Presumably I'll have to pay the transfer and retention fees to put it on eBay though.

Yes, it will make things easier as leaving them on your car and then selling the plate will take around 3-4 weeks for DVLA to re-issue to the new owners (you will get your new number immediately though).
