Hang on though - in defence of German Marques.

£13750
£1500 respray as an absolute minimum
£250 wheel refurbs
£1000 cam belt etc.
£1000 brakes
£100 parking sensor minimum
£17600 total.

Of the potential £2400 profit margin the seller loses £350 as VAT, leaving him £2000 remaining, and then on top of this the buyer will want to haggle.

I personally think his pricing has been week explained, and I have to say another dealer I go to has a similar car preparation ethos - specialist cars of malton - who as far as I am concerned turn out the best quality used Porsches in the UK and very possibly in the world.

Good on this guy for trying to turn out as close to a brand new RS6 plus as he can.

Regardless of the millions spent on it, the car's only worth what its worth...
Car still books at 11-12k, with a potential retail value of 13-14k.

Yes but it's worth what someone is prepared to pay - that is how the true market value is calulated.

I seem to remember a recent thread where we surmised that to an enthusiast the RS6 was definitely worth more than the guide price, and I think there will be out there someone who wants a car in top condition and sees the value in someone else doing the recon work before he buys it.

If you guys don't think it's worth it then you don't have to buy it!

if the respray wasn't done at an approved body shop the 10year guarantee is void....

All those prices you mentioned are retail, if your in the trade you should be getting it cheaper

The trouble is, this is a public forum where people air their views, its nothing personal to the dealer, just a simple opinion that a trader trying to make an £8k profit is too much!

that wouldn't bother me. My friend had work done by a VAG approved bodyshop and they rush them through, generally not a patch on a good independant bodyshop. I wouldn't like a dealer approved bodyshop paint my garage floor.

I welcome all of your views and opinions and it is good feedback to move forward.

I would ask this question though, how many of you would have bought the PLUS @ £13750.00 when it was advertised on Pistonheads?

I am sure not everyone, but most people would have been interested as it was cheap for a PLUS, regardless of what 'the book' states.

We thought hard about just selling it back into the trade, or re-advertising it at something like £14995.00 but decided that the car was to good to do this, and decided to get the things done that needed doing. Also we don't want to let cars go out of the door that we are not happy with, we are trying to build the business.

Drybeer mentions specialist car of Malton, the independent Porsche dealer, they prepare their vehicles amazingly and make sure everything is correct on them prior to sale, they are one of our main inspirations and we intend to make sure our vehicles are in a similar state of prep prior to going out the door.

One of our main goals is to achieve the Independent Audi Retailer of the year award at the Audi Driver Awards, maybe not this year, but maybe steal it away from Fontain next year?

We intend to organise some rolling road days and a few events as things move forward, but for the moment we need to establish ourselves and move some vehicles.

Anyway, I am not trying to justify the price of the car, the car will do that for itself.

If you are looking for a PLUS then there are not that many to choose from, my best suggestion would be to go and look at as many of the vehicles for sale as possible, test drive them and then make your own mind up.

As i said you are more than welcome to come and look at it, or ring me to discuss any aspects of it further. We have nothing to hide, you are welcome to view the receipts for the work carried out yourselves if you are interested, then you will know exactly how much is in the car.

Showroom is 01684 292992.

Thanks,

Tom

DK, you are welcome to your opinion mate, as you say this is a public forum.

It is, of course up to you whether you believe me or not, but I can promise you that the work done on the car has cost more than Drybeers estimate.

I would love there to be as much as the £2.4k in the car, if there was that much margin, we would have advertised it for less.

I dont feel that there is anything wrong with making money from the car. Any good trader, I imagine, should be trawling the classifieds to find cars exactly like this to prep and sell. The price is up to the potential buyers to decide if its worth it.

Im sure it will be a good car and the miles wouldnt put me off but will put many off for the price. If you were to offer the 1 year backup Specialist Cars of Malton offer then that would be a very good price.

I'm always dubious about the "book" values for plus's. its difficult to value such a limited edition model & the trade guides can only base their values on previous sales. I've been tracking rs6 plus sales in the last year or so, especially as i have a vested interest, and there's only been an average of 1-ish per month sold over that period. so does that mean the trade guides base their prices on a market sample of 1..??

I hope this high-mileage plus sells quickly, indicating a sale price close to advertised price, as it means mine will be worth more... :)

Guys, guys!

The seller is obviously being as honest as he can be with this sale. You might think that the price is high for what is being offered. Either way, beating the seller down with negativity will not do this guy any favours. His potential customers will be reading these posts (if they are sensible) and they wont be inspired by your thoughts. If he can sell it at asking price then good effort, if not then its a case of lesson learnt.

My view of this topic is that most / nearly all of the 'price way too high' comments are from people who are potentially looking to buy a C5 RS6. Throwing 'book price' around as a basis for your argument is a bit 'off'. Yes its on paper but for the rest of the guys on here who own 6's its a bit of a slap in the face. Im sure you'll be switching sides when you buy one.

If this car is as well prepped / serviced as it sounds then the mileage should not pose an issue. In fact it'll probably be more sound than a 20k 'storage' model due to the fact that it wont have spent much time rotting away, unused in someones garage with 3 years between services.

on the contrary, some of the Guys commenting are not after an RS 6 and have experience of selling them.

At the end of the day, when a dealer engages in a public forum so opening about price and costs there are always going to be opinions both ways.

To an extent, I agree that book price is out of kilter for the plus, but, a 115k car still has 115k on the clock, and if I was looking for a plus and had £20k in my pocket, i'd take a plus with half the miles for a few £k more

Nothing against this car or this seller, just a rational opinion...

So, if some think its over priced, perhaps its not because it's so far off 'book' but maybe because its so close to the average price of other Plus's with half the miles...
