What to do when the warranty expires?

I'm not extending. I just "mentally bank" £1200 per year. If something goes wrong I have a sinking fund already in place. In effect, I'm my own warranty scheme, but it's a double edged sword: I may have no issues for 3 years and be £3600 better off, or I'll need a new gearbox next week?
I been doing this now for over 8 years of car ownership and I'm definately better off, by a considerable margin. The other factor to take into account is that most dealers will always try to get out of most warranty claims if they can - and just can't be arsed with the agro, because you get left with the feeling that you've been ripped off.
I have complete faith in the build quality of the cars that I have bought, and I've always bought good examples and kept them well serviced - never had a big issue yet, despite some serious hammering around the Nurburgring and some UK circuits in previous cars I've owned. I have faith in the quality of the RS4, engines and gearboxes are so strong these days that I think it is a risk worth taking.

Simon you said "most dealers will always try to get out of most warranty claims if they can "
For Audi warranty my understanding is that UK franchised dealers pass the cost onto Audi UK and threfore always bite my hand off for warranty work as its easy money for them, as they get paid by me but submit the claim against Audi UK.

I am wrestling with this one at the moment as my 3 years is up in November. £1200 seems pretty extortionate to me. I know the peace of mind would be worth a fair bit but given that DRC is on extended warranty and wear and tear are not covered am I likely to have over a grand’s worth of repairs in one year based on the fact that I do less than 10k miles per annum?
As I say I do value the peace of mind and the help on resale but on that front I am not planning on selling for a long time. My Avant is due for a service in the next month or so which will be the first under my stewardship. I am intending to take it to Camberley so if they are as straight as people say they are it will be interesting to see if any warranty work is required and what those guys think re renewal.
Linked to this issue can anyone tell me what happens re 1st MOT time, is it possible to have the test done a day or two before the car’s 3rd birthday to get items fixed under warranty??

I recently got a letter from my dealer ofeering to do an "End of Warranty Health Check" and an MOT at the same time, so I guess it is possible. I'll be booking it in shortly ...!aarghesfore wrote: Linked to this issue can anyone tell me what happens re 1st MOT time, is it possible to have the test done a day or two before the car’s 3rd birthday to get items fixed under warranty??

The first MOT can be done up to a month before the car is 3 years old and lasts until the car is 4 years old, e.g. got my MOT done on July 6th but it expires on July 29th next year.aarghesfore wrote:Linked to this issue can anyone tell me what happens re 1st MOT time, is it possible to have the test done a day or two before the car’s 3rd birthday to get items fixed under warranty??
It's the same principle as getting a subsequent MOT done up to a month before the current one expires - the new MOT will last until 1 year after the previous MOT expires.
