wouldn't have another one

Post by lenrs6 » Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:41 pm

after 2 years of twitching over cats-eyes and the accelerator pedal flapping about through every corner, i had to let the 6 go. i will get slated for saying it.
yes, its quick for a biggun, sounds class, and combines understatement, practicality and straight line speed.....but......poor handling, a suspension system that even the dealers can't keep a straight face about and increasingly hilarious running costs mean these beasts are no longer disguising their flaws. it was time to stop hiding from the truth.
sad to see it go. not really.
what next? for now, a new S3, remapped. like a wasp on crack in the corners by comparison, with all the toys the 6 had and more.
would i buy an RS6 again? fraid not
i suspect too many have learned the hard way though

Sorry to hear that. There's a simple and very effective fix for the DRC problem - was that the only real complaint?

main but not only.
pointlessly irritating tyre sensors
cracked alloys
water pump failure
solar roof giving an avant steam room on wet days
warped front discs
badly behaved cruise control

depreciation is a given, but the attitude of the dealers is that everything to do with the 6 MUST be as expensive as possible.
just got fed up with it.

a shame.

Yes, but where would I put all my building gear, or my dughters student stuff, in an S3, and still be able to outrun 99% of the cars on the road? Other options may offer better handling and more reliability, but in sheer terms of practicality combined with fun in my book there is still nothing to compare!

Dave

PS - and yes, as I post this, mine is in the dealers having warped discs replaced under warranty......

sorry, but for me, none of those things apply. it's the best audi i have owned for what i like/need in a car. and i've owned a 10v ur-q, s2, 20v ur-q, rs2, a3, s8, allroad.

the s3 is a nice car - probably faster over a twisty road than an evo - but frankly - who gives a sh*t?

Once it's Achilles Heel is sorted (DRC), then its enjoyable to drive, and still costs less to keep on the road than many with comparable performance. As for the dealers, their job is to overcharge as many people for as much as possible as often as possible. That's life, not just Audi dealers.

As for the niggles, I can live with them.

I guess my trouble is Ive owned previous S and RS cars and expected so much more from the mighty RS6, it just didn't deliver imo. I'd like to point out Im a real Audi "fan" and tried really hard to love the car but as Len put it I couldn't hide from the truth. I know the DRC can be sorted, and that really annoyed me as it should bloody work, and Audi should have taken more responsibility in helping owners in this area. But the auto box also sucked imo, not a clever set up at all. If you get on with the car then good luck to you, just wasn't my cup of tea.

I love it and it does everything i want it to do very well . It's not the fastest car in the world but not far off now with 535 bhp , It's not the best handing car but that's not what it's all about ,but it will hold it's own.
I think it's each to there own so good luck with the s3 .

Well said

Every car has there issues! I see them every day

The 6 is great, bikes on the back, roofbox fitted, kids in the back and a boot full of gear and off you blast :-)

You got a high performance they do cost alot to run ;-)

They drink fuel, eat tyres and brakes(mine are warped, nothing a skim won't cure) and expensive on parts, compare it to a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and I know what I would rather have ;-)
