Erm. OK - can you list what's in V-Power and Tesco99 then? I would really
like to be able to say the things you have just said but I don't have the data
to do so. They are both guaranteed to have a RON rating of at least 99. RON
however, isn't a particularly useful measurement. Greenergy at least also
publish their average measured MON numbers - I have never been able to
find anything from Shell about exactly what is in Optimax/V-Power. The interesting
thing about Optimax was that it was sold under the BS for Premium (EN228)
not the BS7800 SU standard. At the end of the day we, as consumers, haven't
got a clue what is in these petrols nor do we really have any idea what effect
these will genuinely have on our cars performance. As I have said before, there
are many others factors in how 'good' a petrol is other than just it's RON. The
only attempt at a qualitative comparison I can recall seeing was in Evo when
they actually got the same car on a dyno with the different fuels. IIRC, Ultimate
came out on top.......

I think this is all about people thinking supermarket fuel is crap. One persons car breaks after filling up and blames the fuel. Word gets out more jump on the band wagon.

Maybe Esso or BP started it all. They will certainly gain from it!

i had a little smirk this morning at the BBC news when a Mercedes owner was telling how he'd been charged over a grand for changing 2 Lambdas.

i bet they didn't even have the common courtesy to lube him up first

LoL, spooky Dave spooky, do you think it could of been that man selling that Yellow object on wheels that we couldnt make head nor tail of, that has started this whole saga by adding that new Super Slik lubricating fuel additive to his car before selling it, the new owner has then pulled round the corner filled up with Tesco and then broke down, can you see where i am going with this........please.

and of course the press got hold of the tale, blew it all out of proportion as usual and then had it perpetuated by Mercedes dealers out to make a quick buck.

makes perfect sense to me

has anyone actually diagnosed what the issue is with the Lambdas as there's several methods by which they could fail?
