MRC500 - Let the work begin
I think it must've been your car I saw parked in Banburys Castle Quay car-park yesterday afternoon then(?) - as I drove up the ramp I saw the underside of the bumper split and hanging down on an Imola B5 S4. Mine was parked just a few spaces away ... split bumper aside; car still looks good ...The FMIC is a tight fit behind the bumper. It is a beast and offers awesome cooling as Mihnea has proven. Downside is that it does cause the bottom of the bumper to flex and sadly mine has cracked either side of the FMIC. Luckily you cant see it as it is on the underside. The bumper has also popped off the sides on the fender, but Doug is going to sort that out when I take it back in next year.
Deus ex machina
jeff ... as proved recently .... may add to yr quote ...... but ......jeffw wrote:The DIS reading (MPG and miles left) is not worked out by the level in the tank.....it's worked out by the ECU from the amount of time the injectors are working....hence with larger injectors the DIS reads lower. Mihnea can adjust this reading.
most definately ... when regaining a stuck float on the fuel level in my car(an S4) ...... the range given on the DIS went up and down like a yo-yo ...... in accordance to the height of the fuel level ----- try it yourself if you dont believe me .....
I am on about the remaining miles ... NOT mpg ...

oh ... also the car wasnt running when this was being sorted ... so no pulse to injectors or spark from the plugs ..... just the ignition on with the top of the tank open, Dougs hands immersed in unleaded .....

Should not have mentioned the MPG reading - this is meaningless to me and I dont care about it, its more the actual consumption... 240 when driving off boost between 70 & 90 on the motor way out of a full tank is pretty dire. I dont think I could get anywhere near 300 miles... which is what I thought I may get.
Anyways, its one of the least important bits for now... just done some FATS times, going to work them out.
As for the car in Banbury - yep that was me
- went to pizza express, parked up in castle quay... had to drive about REALLY slow so I didnt catch the exhaust on all the ramps

If youre driving off boost normally , local, im pretty sure it shouldnt drink any more mpg at all. In fact with the added torque, it should drink slightly less.
Should only drink when putting your foot down, as this is when the injectors should be working overtime. So motorway miles shouldnt be affected if driving off boost as far as I can see. Not at all. Maybe if youre putting your foot down and having short bursts from time to time (As you cant really resist with all that power) then youre seeing the mpg or fuel burn up considerably as car is needing lost more fuel to meet the demanded boost levels. That will make a difference.
I know another dude (Whisky180) running similar power. 470 ponies. He doesnt have the manifold setup, but does have the RS4 Miltek exhaust and the dropped compression and RS4 IC's. Apart from that, car is pretty much similar. and looking at his dis, he gets an average of 16mpg for local.
I think you should be getting around 320 - 340 on a tank of pure motorway miles driving the car off boost, and at least 280 to 300 with some playing about.
Local driving should give you around 170 to 200 on a tank. Those are my estimates.

That is what I expected really... a drop from 350 to 300ish I thought would be alright... not 350-240 or less.saf wrote:If youre driving off boost normally , local, im pretty sure it shouldnt drink any more mpg at all. In fact with the added torque, it should drink slightly less.

I certainly wont get anywhere near 300 no matter how gently I drive her. Its not the end of the world though, just expected more.si_hill wrote:My stage 3 returns just under 300 miles per tank on Motorway journeys (using a very light throttle and little boost). This drops to around 230 miles when the right foot gets a little heavy.

Current estimate based on today FATS runs is closer to 400 - but I may have a boost leak or something so having that checked out at the moment.
You would be a very interesting car to compare against - what do you get from a full tank on the motorway?

I get 300 ish Leon, which is OK, I drive gently and I think the car runs rich - not checked it but I think so.ZeroK66 wrote:DavidT wrote:I dunno, its a highly modified car at the end of the day with what, 450bhp?ZeroK66 wrote: ... its more the actual consumption... 240 when driving off boost between 70 & 90 on the motor way out of a full tank is pretty dire. Nice one thanks Jeff/David. Gives me a good idea, sure once my exhaust is sorted and the final tweaks are done to the map all should be well.

I have to drive really gently and under 80mph to get anything decent mileage-wise. If I drove for a tankful at 75mph, I'm sure I could get 400 miles out of a tank, but I've never been able to do so. 300 is the best I'll ever get and even that means some serious efforts not driving fast. If I drive without looking at the fuel consumption or the boost gauge to try and stay as much as I can in vacuum, then I'll probably get 150 miles out of a tank, but that means constant 200-220km/h and that isn't feasible in the UK or anywhere else than germany....
On the other hand, I'd rather have some fun and know I'm spending money on having fun, rather than getting 400 miles out of a tank and not enjoying any minute of it because of driving like a grandma and having pains in my right foot cuz of trying to keep it as high as possible on the loud pedal...
Just my 0.02,
Mihnea
PS: I need to start experimenting some new theories for improving fuel mileage on 2.7s, it's been in a corner of my mind for a while but I need time to do it and I don't really have loads of time just now...
