Sad story in Belgian newspaper!

Post by Reno » Mon Jan 13, 2003 7:09 pm

In todays newspaper there's a sad story about a RS4." businessman being kept hostage for his exclusive and very expensive audi RS4 " ,apparently 4 masked and armed guys, got in his car, made him drive somewhere quite, and left him there. It seems like criminals know and like the RS4 as well

The RS4 is, if you look at it, the ideal "criminal-car", it's bloody fast in all weather and looks quite regular. I've read that criminals liked impreza's best, it looks like they found a new (and better ) toy.

It's the only advantage I can find of not owning a RS4, it can't be stolen

A VW Golf TDI :low fuel consumption and quite a lot torque, but that's it, nothing compared to the RS4, but i'm happy the way things are. I have something to look up/forward to.

I checked some time ago with my insurer (specialised in "sports cars") because I wanted to know if the RS4 was REALLY the most-stolen car with violence (insurers tend to track these very well : they have to reimburse and they must adjust the insurance rates).

His answer : used to be but not anymore. It's a lot more risky to drive around in a Porsche Boxster S or a TT 225hp (especially in convertible mode). And when it comes to powerful large cars for criminals : BMW X5 4.4. and 4.6is, and Mercedes ML AMG.
Riskiest colors : metallic grey, followed by black.
Less risky : bright red or yellow, or any color that stands out in the traffic.
But he said : better watch out for the new Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg -especially the V10 TDI 313hp- for export to Eastern countries and Africa.
And my guess is, for Audi and on the paper, the RS6 might become a lot more attractive than the RS4.
Doesn't mean the RS4 is riskless though, as shown by the Belgian story, but there might now be many more cars to "choose" from and easiest "preys" (ie drivers not as cautious/warned as many RS4 owners).

Eric
PS : the insurance rate I was offered for an RS4 is about 50% higher than for my VW Passat V6 4motion. Doesn't sound too much like a "high-risk" premium. And my deterrent is getting into good shape to (see attachement) -although not a South African one-

Strange snowman indeed, watching his owner doing crazy things with his V6 4Motion on Michelin Pilot Alpin tyres.
The snow drives were just unreal, as you can guess from the snow on the pix (Les Arcs 1800 resort in the Alps, Christmas 2002).

Yummy
