I'm pretty sure I've read that Audi had made a limited number of RS2 saloons. They didn't make any coupes given that would have been in direct competition to Porsche.

The Cab is an S2/RS2 conversion by Kim Collins. Kim used to have a load of info on his site, but it seems to have been removed in the recent upgrade.

Four-hundred and twenty eight brake horse power.
It doesn't matter how many times you run a figure like that through your head, or how often you roll it around your tongue, you won't be ready for the way it feels when you unleash it on the road.
Until you've held the throttle of a car with that much grunt to the boards, taken one hand off the steering wheel to shift up a gear, and held the ensuing powerslide with one hand, your ideas about acceleration will remain firmly in first gear. Sadly, there are few cars that'll give you that kind of insight, but Kim Collins’s 4x4 S2-engined Audi Cabrio is definitely one of them.
Not that you'd know by looking at it. Aside from the 17in Porsche Cup wheels, the S2 and MTM (the German Audi tuning specialist) badging on the rear and the RS2 chin spoiler, the car looks fairly standard.
You'd never guess this is the result of two and a half years' work.
The 'S2 Cabrio' project started off innocently enough. Kim planned to install an un-modified engine and drivetrain from a crashed Audi S2 Coupi into a Cabrio, but somewhere along the way he admits he got 'a bit carried away'.
Look closer at the car and you realise that getting 'a bit carried away' is a masterpiece of understatement. The rear of the bodyshell has been reshaped to accept the 4wd drivetrain and six-speed gearbox, and the S2 engine that's been dropped in has been modified beyond all recognition.
With the help of MTM, the five-cylinder powerplant now bears more resemblance to the engines used by Audi's works rally quattros of the '80s than the standard unit. There's a turbo the size of a football, and the hot cams from the Porsche-developed Audi RS2. A new ECU ensures smooth running, while a carbon-clad airbox feeds the engine all the air it could want. Needless to say, performance is brutal.
According to figures recorded by MTM with a similarly equipped car, 0-60mph takes just 3.9sec
And if it wasn't for the four-wheel-drive transmission from the S2, those 3.9secs could be your last. Even with 4wd the car has to be pointing in a completely straight line before the throttle is floored - as we discovered when we overtook a car on a slip road and ended up traveling the length of it with a quarter-turn of opposite lock.
On a charge like that, every gearchange through the six-speed 'box is punctuated with a whoop from the wastegate, but to use every gear to its full you'd need a very straight road and no speed limit. Kim reckons top speed is around 180mph.
It's little wonder, with that kind of performance, that when the head of drove it, he declared the car 'dynamite' - and we're inclined to agree. Under hard acceleration the Audi Cabrio is pushed to the absolute limit, and once the turbo kicks in at 3500rpm you can actually feel the torque twisting the bodyshell, pushing the wheels off line as you surge forward.
It's so easy to pile on mph that you really have to watch the speedo in built- up areas, and even though the vast, 12in Alcon front discs and callipers work well, it's easy to misjudge your speed and leave yourself with too little space to slow down.
Naturally the suspension has been uprated, with a set of H&R springs and adjustable Koni dampers at the front, and a set of coil-over-Koni-dampers at the rear once the new rear was welded in, it was the only set-up that would fit.
'The suspension took a bit of work,' says Kim. 'When the car was first set up, it was literally running on the bumpstops, then when we tightened it up it was far too hard. Every bump crashed through the cabin. We slackened it off and went for a quick drive up the road. The difference was unbelievable - it worked so well, we knew straight away we'd got it right.'
The car's comfortable ride at low and high speeds is now one of its most impressive features, but everything else takes a back seat to the sheer speed. 'The pace of this car shocks people,' smiles Kim. 'No-one can believe it's as fast as it is.
'I drove through Germany and it was brilliant. I managed to get 150mph with a full boot and four people in the car and it just ran perfectly. You couldn't do that in any other Cabrio I've ever seen.'
He was egging me on to push a bit harder as I drove it towards his home. 'You can drive it a bit harder if you like,' he said. I mumbled some excuse, but the truth was I couldn't. Every time I stabbed the throttle the car snaked up the road. The performance literally took my breath away.
As Kim says, 'I don't think I'll ever lose the buzz of driving this car hard.
