Nicky, this is an immense car

Its 100kg lighter than the last
88mpg BMT and 88co2 km
That's class leading

Its a Golf, its never going to look like an R8. Its the peoples car

I think it looks great

Ok your points above sound great I guess it's just doesn't do it for me visually. Maybe the GTI or R will. Being honest though the designers must have been badly paid and hence submitted the same design.

I'm with D_K on this one.
88g/km is an amazing step forward on a car in this category - toyota have to resort to petrol hybrid to achieve 79g/km figures on the Yaris.

I'd guess 65mpg in real life as a day-to-day fuel consumption which makes the RS4 a bit sick?

Choice is always down to personal taste - for me it looks fandavidosi...
& as you know it will sell like hot cakes,, whether we like it or not.

VW design is all about evolution - not revolution, especially on a core model such as the Golf.

Bluemotion? - probably 1.6TDI 105 - very nice in the real world with a DSG combo?

Congestion is a great leveller on UK roads.

Look at this GOLF MKVII interior - top notch?

The dashboard structure is one of the most costly parts of the car to engineer.
First impressions are lasting impressions.

As impressive as those stats are, the looks are not flicking my switch.

As a ex Club GTI member (Yep was a Golf Geek) I,m afraid to say it does not do it. Iv I was to splash the cash on a VW I think it would have to be the Scirroco, they look so much better imo

Yeah, I can see me in one of these eventually. I've yet to drive a Golf GTI properly though, i.e. without two nieces in the back.

Agreed but this is under "General car chat" so I'd say that it's a valid discussion?

This Golf - as did the last one - will sell in the millions regardless of what we think of it.

It looks like a crisp piece of evolutionary design to me - instantly recognisable as a Golf, but subtly different?

indeed they will sell millions of them because they are aspirational products

99% of car buyers have zero interest in how a car drives, all they care about is CO2 (because that saves pandas and polar bears) and that it has the latest toys

its like the brain dead banging on about "i wont buy x because its an obsolete model" well i guess they don't want a mclaren F1 or an F40 as they are both obsolete tech, in terms of cars what should matter to a petrol head is how they drive

oh and enjoy your iphone 5s with an incompatible dock connector :bash:

oh and here is the GTi with this years must have option to distinguish it from the MKVI

a red stripe !!!!! :jump:

You can rant all you like, but if the Golf MKVII allows VAG to design and manufacture cars such as the RS4, RS6, R8, Gallardo, Murcielago, Aventador, Veryon and the like then I would find the Golf totally acceptable.

I hardly think that VAG HQ are quaking in their boots at our deliberations?

Not forgetting that the headline thread is "General Car Chat"
