History of Cosworth Technology Ltd.

Here is the history behind Cosworth Technology Ltd...... translated by fish [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

1958- Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin create the enterprise. The name is a composition from the surnames COStin and DuckWORTH. The first running engines and transmissions are developed and built in the north of London.

1963- The recent, successful enterprise move to Northampton. At this time Cosworth sells modified Ford-10e-engine for formula junior racing cars and sports car, under it also the legendary Lotus Seven.

1967- In March the first races are won with a Cosworth engine first formula 2 running. Later Cosworth presents its first engine for the formula 1. In June Jim Clark wins the Grand Prix of the Netherlands in Zandvoort. he drove a Lotus 49 with a Cosworth DFV engine. Numerous further running victories follow.

1979- In Worcester they built the first Cosworth factory.

1980- Cosworth is taken over by United engineering Industries (UEI) from Manchester.

1983- A second factory particularly for the production of casting cylinder heads and engine mounts are established and taken

1984- In enterprise. First customer of the factory is Mercedes Benz; the car manufacturer is supplied with cylinder heads.

1984- In Wellingborough they built a new factory for the assembly (by Cosworth) of engines for the Sierra RS.

1988- Keith Duckworth after nearly 30 years into the retirement. Mike Costin becomes chairman of the board of Cosworth. In the same year UEI von Carlton Communications is transferred. Cosworth sells

1990- Carl clay/tone Communications to the Vickers group. Later Mike Costin the enterprise leaves some months.

1995- Cosworth the US-American enterprise buys intelligently to controls Inc. in Novi, Michigan. There a second technology department is developed.

1996- In Worcester they develop a modern, fully automatic factory.

1998- In September they sell the Vickers group of Cosworth to the AUDI AG Ingolstadt. AUDI and Ford agree upon that Ford takes over the running department. The departments for technology, cast parts and assembly are summarized under the name Cosworth Technology Ltd. and integrated as independent subsidiary company into the AUDI company.

1999- Production and assembly of a V12- cylinder engine for Aston Martin Lagonda in Wellingborough.

2001- Production and assembly of the V6- Bi-turbo engines for the AUDI RS4. Worcester supply cylinder heads and engine mounts to mass production at AUDI.

2002- Introduction on the marketplace is the Ford focus ST 170 with one of the Cosworth Technology developed high speed engines.
Production of the V8 Bi-turbo engines for the AUDI RS6.

2003 and beyond....... lets hope quattro GmbH continue the RS brand with the backing of Cosworth Technology Ltd, both engines in the RS4 & RS6 have been amazing designs unmatched by others! [img]images/graemlins/clap.gif[/img]
