Putting a plate on retention

I need to put my plate on retention

never done it, no idea how to do it?

An interesting thing I found about putting a plate on retention, is they dont generally return the plate back to use if you stop paying the fee after a year.. We put a plate on retention about 12 years ago, kept it for the 2 years paying the fee etc and then had no car to use it on so "let it go" .. about 4 years ago we thought that the number would look great on the Smart, so called DVLA and asked if it was still around .. was told "yes. we hardly ever put them back into circulation" .. As I had kept the expired retention doc't all I had to do was pay the retention fee for each year they had it and they reissued it to me

i know i need to see if i can get my old plates back

who do you contact to get them back?

Dave I just rang the 0300 123 0883 number .. TBH they where very helpfull

Hope you get the plate back !
