Got one last night in Asda's car park, pay or not to pay, that is the question.

Ignore them full stop. They will use scare tactics but ignore them, there is no legal ground for them to take you to court nor issue CCJs or affect your credit rating. In short, it's a scam, they even have fake debit collector company letters. If you want to warn them off, say you have no idea who parked your car when that ticket was issued (e.g. you loaned your car to a friend and they've left the country etc). These tickets are loosely based on contractual law and their argument is; you entered into a contract by parking there. Ergo, if you (the legal owner) were NOT the person who parked the car there, how can you be held responsible for breaking the contract?
Just ignore every letter they send you.

Splendid, just what I wanted to hear, thanks.

Is it not strange that Asda would allow this to go on given as you said no legal ground.

It'll be the landlord that gets into bed with these people. The landlord can be very hard to track down in these cases, hence ASDA won't get involved nor put their name to it. Private parking companies such as these will be illegal very soon, days are numbered. Cnuts.
