Tyres size standards

Hi, a question I hope I can get some help with,

we have a Q5 with 19" wheels on, and I am looking for some winter tyres, the Audi solution is to sell me some 17" wheels with the conforming winter tyes, as the standards states only that is OK.

The local tyre guy has found me some tyres, correct size but the weight rating exceeds that required.

Audi are telling that the only specified tyres are those listed in the "libreto" which is the magic book here in Italy.

I guess my question is in summary, can i fit a tyres with correct width, profile and size but capable of carrying a heavier load?

Many thanks

Hi jezitalia - I'm pretty sure that being able to carry more load is fine - just not the other way. I also gather there are different speed rating rules when you're talking about winter tyres, which may give you some flexibility. This site is very good and always worth a read.....

and the answer is, The Audi garage overlooked the 105H tyres Conti sells and thought selling me some 17" rims was better for them, Fantastic. as a result my local fitters, who gave me a great price anyway will get the business!
