Idiot on the M3 last night with no lights on

Post by gottanS » Sun Sep 05, 2010 1:35 pm

Thought I had seen my fair share of stupidity on the roads but seeing this idiot on the M3 last night takes top spot.

Driving on the M3 southbound towards the Fleet services, sitting in the middle lane at 65mph without any lights on whatsoever. The motorway was quite busy so he was probably seeing the road from the lights on other cars. Car was a VW Golf on a 10 plate, if I had caught the full number I would report him for it.

Rather than give him a friendly flash to advise him of his honest mistake ??

Shame the worlds going this way more and more.

I and quite a few others flashed this person over a couple of miles that I saw and nothing changed, he did not put his lights on. I do not think that qualifies as being an honest mistake..

DO these golfs do what the rs6 does i.e. the instrument panel lights up whether the lights are on or not. SOmetimes that confuses people into thinking they have their lights on.

Still after being flashed a few times they should have realised. SOunds like an oblivious middle lane muppet though with no lane discipline.

I do find it worries me how many people drive about at dusk with no lights on. Seems a major afflicton up here in Aberdeenshire SEE AND BE SEEN PEOPLE!!!!!!

PS thats no excuse for looking like a <beep> and having your sidelights and fogs on.........NO IT DOESN'T LOOK COOL JUST MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A <beep>!

It's also ILLEGAL to drive with front and/or rear fog lights on if the visibility is in excess of 100 yards (yes the Act still specifies yards).

That's such an antiquated law these days though! The DRLs on my S5 are far brighter than my fogs! And yet they're legal. I presume!

Bit of a old thread, but a ward of warning, it was a trend in some parts of London a few years ago, as a gang initiation to drive around with out lights on, to initiate a "come on", then you would have to pursue and attack the person flashing you. There was a few cases reported.

On that some car alarms/immobilisers shut down the headlights, so the car may have well been stolen.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Back in the day, people used to fit spot lights as well as fog lights to cars. Do any of you legally minded people know if those would be legal in good visibility.
