What is it with VAG dealerships? Went into the local VW dealership yesterday as they have a four door Golf R demonstrator sitting outside. Went in to ask for a test drive as it's getting close to end of contract for my B7 RS4.
The response was, and I'm not kidding (!), "you need to be buying one". I suggested that was a bit daft as you'd need to test drive it before doing anything, but the sales guy didn't back down!!
Basically, he was hinting that it was signature first or no test drive - WTF is that all about??!!
My car was away getting new tyres and I was in full domestic DIY jeans and T-shirt but are they selling millions of cars right now? and nice as it is, it's no feckin' Lamborghini is it?!
Went back later with my car, parked right outside the showroom and took the wife. Had a look round the R with her. The same boy came outside with a smile on his face after realising I wasn't a chancer, at which point we got back in the car and drove off - his face was a picture!

The brother in law told me to go through the motions and persist with trying to get a test drive. Then just rubbish it afterwards saying the focus is much better to drive!

Tell him you'll buy one after the test drive then when you get back say it was ok and buy a GTi with leather and Nav.......... from a different salesman

(all the "R's" are sold anyway)

I've had the same with t a VW salesman at a local dealer.
I wanted a test drive of a Toe Rag, but got a pretty negative response to a request for a test drive. I just wish I'd answered the phone when he called a couple of weeks later, as he apparently sounded pretty gutted when he was told I'd bought my RS4 instead.

I just can't figure out why they would behave like that? Especially without trying to figure out a bit more about you before saying no!! Do sales guys not get commission now?

best story I've heard was about a woman who always drove Range Rovers, changed every 2 years from the same local dealer. When she showed up at the dealer the salesman said "I'll be with you in a minute" and then proceeded to attend to paperwork. 'm not sure how long she gave it before she turned and walked out. Seeing an easy sale walking out the salesman went after her, by which time she was sitting back in her Range Rover. She opened the window and kept him talking in the pouring rain (he had rushed out so had no jacket on) until he was soaked through.........and then drove off.
