£35k to spend on a new car - which one

Post by HYFR » Fri Jan 22, 2010 8:56 pm

Got £35k to spend on brand new VAG car.

Need to do 100 miles a day so MPG needs to be considered, so maybe the min has to be it must be capable of 40mpg on a motorway cruise.
Needs to be sporty and have street cred and not be a rep mobile (so no A4's!)

No need to worry about depreciation, as I hand it back after 7,000 miles and order another

So, what would you choose? and why?

My shortlist is;

VW Scirroco 2.0tdi GT
Golf GTI
TT tdi
A5 3.0tdi coupe
A5 2.0tdi cabrio
TTS coupe
S3 hatch
Octavia vRS
Leon Cupra R
Exeo 2.0T / tdi

Get a Poll up!

I'd go for the Scirroco.

A5 or TT in my books.

I always think about resale, and I'm pretty sure the Scirocco won't fare well. Although for £35k, you'd probably get a fully spec'd up roco with change!

A5 /TT because love both of them. If practicality is a consideration, then go for the A5, otherwise drive both, and see what you think.

Spend 35k on a new car and hand back after 7k miles? What sort of a lease is that?

most of the cars you've listed are alot less than 35k?

Do you not need 4 doors?
Personally would go for the A5 3.0tdi...

A5 coupe from that list for me, comfy 3.0tdi is a perfect mile munching daily. Silver or metallic grey or similar aswell to hide the worst of the daily use grim without the need to be washing it constanly

Haha nice stereo/nav, climate control and leather mounts up bloody fast doesn't it! Never understand how they justify the cost of some options

I'd take the A5 3.0TDI. Mum had a Touareg with the 3.0TDi engine at you could light up all four wheels on a dry road with the torque. In a much lighter A5 it will be a chuckle, with a remap it would be a monster.

yeah i quite like A5 tdi...

i get the list tomorrow so will see exactly whats on it

if the TTS or S3 is on there im not sure the petrol head within me can say no

i have to take the first one from stock so maynot get my ideal choice, but from then on can factory order

But why a company car for only 7k miles before swapping for a new one ?

So how does it mean you'll have the car? When I had a company car it would mean I'd be ordering the next one almost as soon as the new one arrived!
