RE: stealing your car
Shounds familiar as it's been going on for a while.
I remember a mate with an EVO and nice 5 series. They broke in through the kitchen door, backed the BMW off the drive so they could get at the Evo in the garage. Took it to a side street in Litherland and left it. It was found after a few hours in good nick, locked up and no keys. Turns out they leave the cars parked "normally" to check if anyone comes after it having activated a tracker.
In my simple view on life, the keys can stay downstairs. I pay Mr Insurance far too much money to have me or the family woken up by some crack-ridden nutcase hell bent on taking the motor. The car is special but still replaceable.
