I once passed this very thing on the A4.
A Police car had pulled over a car and four guys had jumped out and were giving him a right good hiding. I was guna stop and help but I thought four of them was enough!!!!

No. With the stupidly insane laws of this country today, you would probably get arrested as well for assualting the four guys. Just drive on by.
It's a shame and a sad state of affairs but the legistlators are the ones to blame - not me.

RE: POLL. If you saw a traffic cop fighting at side of road
I once had a situation driving home one night, a fight had broken out with about 7 or 8 blokes laying into 1 other. I stopped and before I could get out the car 2 of them were over to me and kicking my car. The police station was at the most 500 meters down the road and after banging in the door for ages they were like " what do you want us to do?"
That sort of attitude does not make me want to help them! But that said I would like to think deppendent upon the situation ie no kids in the car with me I would help after a 999 call first.

RE: POLL. If you saw a traffic cop fighting at side of road
What a pathetic poll to run.
What if this was your stolen car he or she had just stopped, shortly after it had been taken from your home by someone who'd just terrorised, threatened and attacked you and your family? (Has happened)
What if it was a peadophile or had just kidnapped and raped a child. (Has happened)
What if it was a drunk driver that had just mowed down and killed your family member. (Has happened)
What if it was simply a speeding driver so arrogant that they felt they were above the laws of this country and they have a right to speed and endanger other peoples lives. And rather than accept the consequences of their actions they react like a petulant child and are agressive and abusive? (Presumably the angle you are looking at it from)
The what if's go on and on, unfortunatley Police Officers don't get to pick and choose wether they stop and get involved, they have to help everyone, no matter how ungrateful, undeserving and unpleasant they may be.
For people who have presumably achieved something in their lives and have a reasonable level of education, your ignorance and hypocrisy is laughable.
Who is the first person you call when you are in danger?, who do you expect to be there in times of emergency?, natural disaster?, terrorism?, armed robberies?, large scale public disorder?
Yes, one of the Police's roles is to enforce traffic laws, that's right - LAWS. If you don't want to get 3 points for speeding then don't speed, it's quite simple.
If you wish to live in a country where the traffic laws are not enforced then move away, and take your chances in a much more dangerous environment.
To think that you would drive by watching a fellow human being being attacked at the roadside for simply doing his or her job is a shameful reflection on society, and not an opinion I would have expected to read on this forum.
Not that any of you could care less I'm sure, I will be removing myself from this forum.

So, that's a yes then.
What a liberty to quote "Not that any of you could care less I'm sure" How the hell do you know what everyone else's views are ?
You've had yours, and you had some valid points so why not have the courtesy to listen to other people's, this is called a "Discussion Forum" after all not a soap box for the likes of yourself
Why no comment on Graham's point, a very valid one IMO
Go on, spit your dummy out, I didn't ask for a lecture, just a simple Yes or No

Whoa! Hold on Chris. A few keystrokes over the 'tinterrnet' can be misleading while just reading words with no emotions.
I have always had the upmost respect for the Police - there will always be a few bad ones as in all walks of life but generally speaking I think they do a good job in difficult times, so this is certainly from my point of view NOT anti Police.
20 odd years ago I would have stopped and helped a woman who looked as if she may have had a puncture (which I actually did). Not today I'm afraid. Not 10 miles from where I live in rural Cambridgeshire, a bloke who did just that was severely beaten up by her accomplice who was hiding behind the bushes, they left him on the roadside with horrendous injuries and nicked his car.
I could go on with the what if's like you but there is no point, I'm sure you can see what I'm trying to say but it's just that you wouldn't agree with them. Now 20 years later and coming up to 60 years old, to be honest, I don't think I would last 2 seconds in front of a manic 20-30 something who's on the verge of getting nicked. I'm sure my wife and family would not appreciate me having a go if the outcome was me lying in a hospital bed with a permanent injury.
I totally agree with you in that if you speed, then you shouldn't whine about it if you're caught - you know the score so don't speed but this thread is not about speeding.
You can also never tell what you (I) would do in a real life situation, if I saw this happening on my way to work on Tuesday morning I may react in a completely different manner and go into autopilot and just wade in - who knows?
Don't over react Chris and leave the forum just because of mine and a couple of other peoples opinions over a hypothetical situation, I'm sure that it would be the forums loss if you left over something like this.

No way would I stop to help a Traffic Cop - these are the idiots that fine people even when they have insurance (see the post on here), give people fines and points for driving safely but being over the speed limit but let dangerous driving go unchallenged, let foreigners drive on foreign plates for well over the allowed limit, tailgate families on the M4 (read the Mail on Sunday last weekend). Traffic Cops don't deserve the help or support of normal citizens.
