Looking to buy A4 Diesel Multitronic. Need more info plz.

Post by saf » Sat May 10, 2008 7:59 pm

Hi guys,

Im looking for a Diesel Multironic 1.9tdi A4.

I have a friend who has one although Ive not seen it as hes up in scotland. He says its very economical and does about 550 miles local and can even get 800 miles on a tank if he dips into reserve and does 90% motorway mileage.

I always thought the Autos drank more, until last night I read a review on these and they say its more economical than a manual 6 speed.

Did they make many cars with these units in. Are they hard to fix nd cost of replacing a gearbox, and also are they reliable.

Would like to hear of anyone with experience in driving or maintaining these cars.

Many thanks

saf,

sorry but i think you'll struggle to stoke up much enthusiasm in a diesel 1.9 tdi on this site :sleeping_2:
Mint Optic Pack saloon in Daytona Grey (Now sold)
B7 RS4 in Sprint Blue (Gone to a very good new home)
Evo V1 (wish i'd kept)
Numerous M3s

If you take my advice, stay away from the Multitronic gearboxes.

They have a common problem where they need a new control unit, which is around £600. Signs of this are the gear shift indicator on the instrument cluster flashing, and/or starting problems.

Plus some of the earlier cars require a new clutch pack, which is even dearer plus the bx has to come out for this IIRC. Common signs of this is very jerky when starting from standstill.
