picking up mk2 Golf GTI for trackdays

Post by GHH » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:56 pm

Had to sell my last oak green GTI last year to make some space in garage, wish i'd kept it now because it was all ready on its way to being sorted for trackdays.

anyway picking up black 3 door 8v GTI this evening with a mate who has space for the project, gonna fit some bits i have laying around in garage (6 point cage, vibratechnics engine and gbox mounts, G60 280mm brake set up, baffled sump and some other bits and pieces i keep finding!) and then concentrate on handling and braking set up - thinking polybushes, arb's, and adjustable suspension kit (koni's probably, they were quality on last one), upper and lower strut braces, track rubber, braided hoses and good brake pads/discs for starters with bucket seat and harness.

tempted to finish the G60 8v crossflow turbo engine off and fit that in with the cable change box i have spare too but might wait till next year for that!

whats the deal with track insurance, safety requirements and stuff?

Might be worth calling Competition Car Insurance, speak to Susie Cattermole.

I get my trackday insurance through them, pretty good cover at a reasonable price.

Sounds like a nice project car, always loved the few mkII GTI's that I owned :rocker:

Sounds like fun George. Will it be ready for the Autometrix track day @ Castle Combe in July?!

ads - might be, after getting it i found out my old gti is up for sale from the bloke i sold it too, might just buy that back because its already sorted handling wise and i'd already cut the sunroof out for cage fitting! altho will have the 15's and s/s exhaust off this one for it if i do. hhhmm watch this space.
