I'm going to buy a helmet for Castle Combe and plan to do a lot more track days so am looking for a decent helmet. What helmets are you guys wearing for track days? I've been looking on ebay but most of them seem to be aerodynamic motorbike helmets and look like their rear spoilers/fins will clash with a headrest?! Advice please on recommendations.... :thumb:

Hi Ad,

Mine's a black Shoei Raid, a leftover from biker days. It's very comfortable, looks nice in plain black and is easy to put on as it has a simple clip mechanism. I don't think they make it any more, it's been superceded by the Raid 2. However, I'm sure there are better one's out there that are specifically aimed at track driving.

For in car use I wouldn't buy a full face helmet. Have a look on Demon Tweeks...

Looked at most if not all of the web sites for helmets. I've heard that there are some tracks that don't allow open face helmets, and some that require class A helmets only. I'm thinking of the Stilo SP2 Trophy....

My tip would be to go to a bike shop and try on lots of different makes... you will find that the shape of your head will match with certain makes, and will certainly not fit with others!... The most important thing about any helmet purchase is that it fits your head, also the benefit of this is that its actually comfortable to wear. Other than that, make sure its got a CE mark.

I concur with SteveH. Mines a leftover from biking days, but suppose I ought to change it for next season though.

Go to a decent bike shop and get best fitting helmet which you can afford. Motorsport helmets are all very well but you wouldn't be able to go karting in the Stilo without adding a visor or go in my Kit car for that matter......Motorcycle helmets are VAT free unlike motor racing helmets. I bought 2 helmets off ebay for my wife and son to go in the Kit Car, both where Arai helmets and both had hardly been used. Once you know your size and which helmet you prefer have a look on ebay to see if you can get a good deal.
