Car stolen with keys, what happens?

I had the keys to my RS4 taken from my house last Friday along with a load of other things and was wondering what happens if your car is stolen with the kyes, do the insurance company still pay out?

Also if the car is stolen and they don't recover it how long do the ins co. wait to pay out?

My RS is now parked in my mates garage about 100 miles away.

Thanks for the replys

you can have the stolen key removed from the immobilisor quite easily by audi then although the key will open the locks it won't start the car, will your house insurence pay for replacement keys?

Don't know about the house insurance as the father in law died yesterday so haven't had a chance to talk to them about it

Thats aweful. Burglars in my opinion are amongst the lowest form of low life in this world along with child molestors/sex offenders/car thieves etc etc.

Having worked in the Insurance industry for a number of years I feel you are on fairly safe grounds as it all revolves around the matter of you taking 'reasonable care' to ensure that the original theft did not occur. So as it was a house break in and there was others valuable items taken I doubt that there would be any challenge. However on the flip side, people who have their cars stolen from petrol forecourts whilst leaving keys in the ignition whilst they go and pay the cashier are asking for trouble both from the low life scum as well as the Insurance Companies. This is where people come sometimes come unstuck...

From a payout point of view, then there is normally a qualifying period before the Insurance Company will pay out. This varies from policy to policy/Company to Company, so check your policy docs. They should at least either provide a courtesy car during the interim. (Note this will be your Car insurance Company and not your House insurance policy). You will be amazed at the % of stolen cars that are recovered within the first few days/weeks, so the Insurnance Companies not wait a defined period just in case it turns up or the old bill catch the scum...

sorry to hear that, i'm sure you've got your hands full at the moment, suffice to say if you buy a replacement key from audi they can add the new spare and remove the stolen one, you might be able to get your locks replaced also by the insurance but i guess that's the least of your worries.

I had the keys to my Golf nicked whilst on holiday and the Insurance company couldn't give a stuff. (Then again it is only a Golf). I asked them to confirm that they would offer full cover for the car if it was stolen using the keys and they confirmed it. They would not pay to have the locks etc changed!

I suppose for peace of mind, get new keys recoded and change the lock barrels on the doors and ignition. Remember if your plip doesn't work you can open the doors with the key and providing you get the ignition turned on within 15 seconds (or something) then you can drive the car away.

Or leave a pit bull near the car..? Perhaps wire a cattle prod to an immobiliser...?

ooohhh...Ignore my earlier ramblings then !!

I have a mother in law that I could lend out and she would certainly scare off any potential thieves. She is FAR FAR worse than any put bull......

my friend is into his kite surfing. and its a 'rule' that one person stays on the beach to watch the gear while people are out on the surf. well one day everyone was out. and the bags were taken off the beach. and cars where nicked. my friend had a brand new alfa 147. 2 weeks old. (about 4 years ago). it took the insurance company about 8 months to pay out. then found the car in a lock up, 2 miles from the beach. shiter..
