Bullet Cam testing....

HI folks

Been a while since I did a polo update…. I haven’t actually done anything to the car but this was I had written before on the forum when I bought back in Feb:

Its pretty well specced and I got it cheap too so the first thing I did is take it for a Remap to MRC ( which promted Doug to Buy a Polo TDI for himself but then sold it for an S3 and an RS4...no accounting for taste lol)....

After discussion we decided to put 1.5 bar into the little motor and see what happens!!! What a fricking laugh!

It was rolling roaded at 105bhp and 181 ftlbs (245nm!!) which I know isnt much comparesd to the figures we normally talk about but according to my Gtech this engine produces more torque at 2200rpm than my old tuned S4 AFTER its tuning road trip: see here:
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... +road+trip

STandard they are 75 bhp and 195 NM@ 2200. Just to put that into perspective, a std GTi 6n2 polo has 125bhp and a crappy 152NM @3300 , It deosnt weigh very much either...so its by no means mind blowing but its certainly not slow.

It takes a lot of getting used to cos the ratios are LOOOONG and the power band is 1500 to 4000 revs, but on the way home from the remap (feb) I managed to ascertively out drag an MG ZR and not so assertivley but impressive non the less a Golf GT TDi!!!

I made a Probe 16v and a Saxo VTR look totally stupid! all from a tiny 3 cylinder engine! WOW.... Soo impressed.....3 cylinder growl is good once you get it into your head the engine isnt misfiring!

Since I bought it, I have bought PD150 Injectors and the tools to fit them ( but haven’t yet) and have scoped out a cossie IC and exhaust for it, Im hoping that will take me nearer to 150bhp and silly torque target …… and still returns 60mpg if you drive like a granny…. Any way…

More to the point recently I bought a bullet cam cheap on ebay:
http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/dogcampro520.htm
and a sony cam corder. So I took some footage when I got the camera on my way home …. Stuck it to some music and hay presto… my first you tube video!

Obviously I’ll be getting more adventurous with some track time and the turbo and derby etc oh… Terry is up with the S4 next week!! Hmmm….

Well heres the finished article and I know the pics whizz quick in the beginning, I was trying to get a panning effect in time with the music which looked good on the laptops raw file but pants on you tube… ah well it’s all a learning experience!

Pics for those that want to see them, Its very practical and I’ve forgotten what the petrol station looks like… ;) rock on 1.4 3 cylinder diesels! ( also means I can spend money on testing random S4 parts... manifold update is coming shortly.....

Good post, I enjoyed reading that, thanks. I bought a Sony Mini DV Handycam last week with the intention of using it on trackdays. I haven't got the bullet-cam yet as I'll be using it first on a standing start straight line event, so I got a headrest mount for it and will point it at the speedo on the camera detector.

What camcorder did you buy and are you using a lanc with the bullet-cam?

I got the Sony DVR-HC42e from memory.... its good and yes it does have a LANC option which I havent bought yet, so for that vid I basically left the tape on a waded through lots of boriing footage to whitle it down, LANC is a good idea me thinks (its a push button that starts and stops the camera that can be mounted anywhere and tells you the status of the camera etc). The cam has mini D and SD card recording as well as night vision which could be fun (im thinking most haunted style vid scaring the crap out of the wife at a camp out in a local castle or something... heh)

Yeah I dont have a headrest mount but will get one so I can choose between the cameras. I spoke to viperbl about it too and hes got lots of equipment! but Im just starting out and am quite pleased. ALso MS Vista movie maker isnt too bad for a standard package!

Derdle.... tell me about it.... its missing the other half of the engine ;) Although its far better suited to sitting in 50mpg traffic on the M8 day in day out.....saves me a fortune in fuel!

Si is that the enxt project then, weld another three cylinder lump on the side to make it a V, or make it a "bi-moto" and stick the other one in the boot?

I think I got the 96E, which sounds like it does the same stuff as yours, i.e. lanc and AV capability. From the sound of it, I think viperbl's setup is in a different league. I've tried the nightshot thing out, it's quite good for a bit of fun. I got my headrest mount from these guys, if it's any help:

I've not downloaded anything yet, but I've got Movie Maker, so I'll give that a whirl.

Cool, that looks really good, problem is 2 of the cars I have at my disposal have bucket seats and rollcages, so Im thinking something like that Boom stand holder... sorry thats drummer speak... basically the arm thing, then I can mount it to either the seat or the cage.... hmmm needs some planning

Jarv,

I'm no media guru so only have a 135Mb file on CD at the moment. Guess it might make the rs246.com server finally give up the ghost if I tried to post it!
I wish it were facing backwards too - as I had an AMG somethingorother on my tail down the long back straight..I braked to hit the chicane and he braked too but suffered massive fade, ended up ploughing straight on. All you can see in my video is the pillock bouncing onto the track in front of me!
