Engaging "full-on Rant Mode"

just come back from Newcastle on the A1 and i was amazed at the standard of driving i witnessed.

just one question, do people actually realise there's a lane to their left that they can drive in?

i drove behind two Mercs and a third car who just would not pull over to let anyone overtake. this is more annoying when i tell you i was in the inside lane constantly for 2 miles at one point with no traffic infront of me other than these three.

two bloody miles, nothing in the inside lane and they flatly refused to pull over. in total i followed them for around 60-70 miles and i would guess for 90% of that distance there was nothing in the inside lane except me but all three never once ventured into the inside lane. after a few miles of this i thought to hell with it and tried to pass on the inside (yup, i know it's illegal but by this time i was becoming irate) as soon as the lead Merc realised what i was doing he accelerated from his previously sedate 65mph and turned into Damon Hill to block my manouvre by sitting beside me forcing me to slow because of a wagon in the inside lane.

i was in a company pool car i might add, wonder if the situation would have been different had i been in the S4

so i offer a hearty "W@nkers !!" to the three unknown drivers who turned the A1 into a rolling road block.

Rant Mode disengaged

Tell me about it Dave, i travel that road far too much!

Why when people make a move to overtake (if as you say there not in the outside lane already) do they insist doing it so sodding slowely. get it over with already. - either that or they wait till your just at that "are they going to pull out infront of me?" stage as you go to overtake them!

arrrggggh, and there almost always seems to be sodding nissan micra drivers there is always one dawdling at there own pace (59mph) oblivious the mounting rage of the 4 mile que behind them.

Shiney Dave, i think you are a Saint , don't be disapointed in yourself for the little indescretion, I too would have tried a polite flash , followed by a simlar move. I am sorry to say that i would have slide into a hateful world or raming and attempted pit manovers if i was stuck for an hour.

It's true about how your car affects things though, borrow your other halves super mini and it gets even worse

glad i'm not alone. i was actually in a 1.6 Renault Scenic, not exactly a car to be playing with the big boys in, maybe that's why they felt the need to baulk my progress. either that or small willy syndrome made them feel they had something to prove

That must come a pretty close second in the Most Inaptly Named Car Awards, after the Mitsubishi Carisma...!

Anyway, back on topic - yes, a complete PITA! Perhaps you should just adopt the American style of "lane discipline" (ie none!)

i believe the name was chosen (and quite aptly in my opinion) because the damn heap of junk is so slow you have ample time to admire the scenery.

then again the handling is so dreadful there's a fair chance that you will actually become part of the scenery.

I feel your pain Dave. I'm getting angry just picturing the scene. It's just not on, a freakin' Renault Scenic man. How could they make you drive that.

PMSL, and the lane hoggers make me mad as well. I think we may have evidence here that the lane traditionally called the 'BMW Lane' may be changing to the 'Merc Lane'.

Ugh, dont get me started on lane hoggers. I come up behind people in the far left lane (they are sitting in the middle @ 60) - I pass as CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to give them a scare and get back into the left lane infront of them and continue my journey. THEY NEVER MOVE OUT OF THE MIDDLE LANE EVEN AFTER THAT!!
