Know I am not T turbo but can answer the question for you as have both.. the porsche is a completely different animal. Even in standard form the 996 was quicker due to being nearly 300 kgs lighter, more direct steering and better stopping power and better balanced in my opinion. Mine is not standard, so suspension and brakes are revised as is engine output, leaving the car much quicker..... but I know which one I would wish to spend long journeys in.... and it has rings on the grill!

I agree with simple1 but i prefer the tt on long journeys. The tt acceleration was intoxicating eg. on the same short stretch of road the tt would reach 155mph where the RS4 will only get to 120mph, but then i had this conversion found here
http://www.imagineauto.com/996tt-04.htm
It really is impossible to compare because the tt was £104k and the RS4 only £55k so are worlds apart. The tt build mechanical build quality is amazing, i spent days at the track and the only thing that ever failed was my brakes due to overheating.
What i can say is that if the missus goes i will be purchasing a 997 tt with mods and suggest if you have the cash laying around you do the same.

I got one, standard at the moment and I've kept hold of the wife til I PX.
Simon, I prsume you went to DMS?
I must admit if this thing is tuned to anything significant I can honestly say it will be too fast for me.

SEX ON WHEELS.
I've driven a stock 996 Turbo, DMS 996 Turbo, Stock 997 Turbo & DMS 997 Turbo & each of these cars are capable of removing fillings from teeth, however the DMS 997 Turbo is just insane.
0-60 in 3.5 seconds is just wrong, but boy does it feel good. As an everyday drive i think it's a tough call & i perhaps would sway towards the RS4, but that's as much to do with unwanted attention as anything else due to the 997 Turbo (& 996) being fairly easy to drive under normal conditions.
Just wish i owned one (alongside the RS4)

I'm a family man, with a partner and two children, and it would be foolish (and selfish) to own such an impractical car...

Yes doto, but as simon says "Attention" is the word here , and the porsche is a car the scammera teams and all other inforcements partnership watch for with a passion.

Looks stunning Bob, and an amazing car.. drove one at Dick Lovett and Dms modded one and hugely impressive. I just could not justify double the cash difference between 996 and 997.
DMS upgrade is very subtle on 997, does not make the car unruley, the mods on my 996 were done by them, have to say I would change the exhaust on 997 and little else.

Been out in the 997 Turbo, and I agree, that's one scary car! The ceramic brakes stop it so quick the ABS can't cope! It doesn't half dance around though on English roads. Hit 140 in no time and the front end was really alive!
But as my mate put it, it is a motorbike with 4 wheels. You can dart through any gap you want to. If only they could put a dsg system on it as the tiptronic's just not doing the car justice. Then again, manual cars run their clutch out after 4k miles on average

and can't really cope with the power on take off!
Beautiful car - even better in the flesh - love the gun metal / titanium style grey on it!
And I agree with you on the exhaust simon, with just a little better engine note it'd be perfect, but much more power would just be totally insane

I looked into this and sent an email, I just would not have the confidence to start sending ECU's half way round the world and then trying to find someone to put it all back together again afterwards. Not on a brand new car that's under warranty. Good for you though for doing it on yours. DMS vs Ray West for me at the moment.

This came as a surprise to me too! Discovered that the AWD is apparently set up to behave like this deliberately - to make the whole experience more, well, scary.

Yeah, it's quite an arse tightening experience!! My mate who was driving did say it was set up so you should basically loosen your grip on the wheel and just let the car's computers sort it out - requires a bit of faith that!
You've certainly got a lovely car there Bob, it's definitely on my 'to do' list one day! My mate was actually really lucky to get hold of one for the afternoon - he works as a tech at Porsche, but the staff don't have access to the cars, he just decided to go ask sales if his dad could get a test drive in the turbo for his birthday, and maybe he could be the one to take him out, and they said why not just have it for the afternoon and we'll insure him on it as well (at this point he thought it best not to mention his dad's daily driver was a 1.4 corsa)!!!
It's noticeable how different the engine note is on the turbo compared to the C4S - not as boxer sounding.

I have to say i Have driven the 997 turbo and it drives similar to the 996 and i cant say it danced anywhere, it's so surefooted it unbelievable.
I Think you missed a Zero off the 4k for the clutch. It should see you well for 40,000 miles.
